The Role

About the role

Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You’ll join a global community of experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely to shape the future of mainframe modernization.

In this position, you will design, build, and maintain high-volume mainframe business logic while refactoring legacy code to enable seamless integration with modern cloud and mobile applications. Beyond technical execution, you will bring strong leadership skills to guide and mentor an offshore engineering team over the long term.

What you will do

• Microservices Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 4.
• Event Streaming & Kafka: Implement real-time event streaming solutions using Apache Kafka to consume, transform, enrich, and publish streaming data.
• Data Integration & Persistence: Implement change-detection logic, publish event updates, and optimize data persistence within MySQL databases.
• Cloud & Resiliency Architecture: Deploy and manage applications on Microsoft Azure PaaS, ensuring fault-tolerant, scalable, and highly available streaming architectures.
• Reliability & Testing: Configure robust retry mechanisms, dead-letter topics, and idempotent processing while writing comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests.
• DevOps & Delivery: Collaborate closely with DevOps teams to implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and guide an offshore development team to foster technical growth and ensure delivery excellence.

What you bring

• Java & Spring Expertise: Deep technical knowledge in Java 17+ and hands‑on experience building microservices with Spring Boot 4.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Proven experience with Apache Kafka for real-time data streaming, transformations, and event publishing.
• Database Management: Proficiency in MySQL database integration, query optimization, and implementing change‑data capture/detection patterns.
• Cloud & DevOps Proficiency: Hands‑on experience deploying applications to Microsoft Azure PaaS alongside familiarity with CI/CD automation and practices.
• Distributed Systems Reliability: Demonstrated ability to build resilient systems utilizing idempotent processing, fault‑tolerant design, retry handling, and dead‑letter queues.
• Leadership & Collaboration: Strong leadership and communication skills with the capability to effectively guide, mentor, and align offshore technical teams.

• Core Java & Microservices: Hands‑on experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 4.
• Event-Driven Streaming: Proven expertise in implementing real-time event streaming architectures using Apache Kafka, including consuming, transforming, and enriching streaming data.
• Data Integration & Persistence: Proficiency in MySQL database optimization and data persistence, along with experience implementing change‑detection logic and event‑publishing patterns.
• Cloud Platforms (Azure): Demonstrated track record deploying and managing enterprise applications on Microsoft Azure PaaS.
• Resilient Systems Design: Deep understanding of building fault‑tolerant, scalable, and highly available streaming systems, with practical experience configuring idempotent processing, retry mechanisms, and dead‑letter topics.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Strong experience writing robust unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure application reliability and performance under load.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Practical experience collaborating with DevOps teams to design, maintain, and support automated CI/CD pipelines.
