Job summary

Maxwell Energy Systems is building the next generation of intelligent electronics for electric mobility. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will own end-to-end hardware development for automotive control boards from requirements to production.

You will design analog, digital and power electronics for BMS, EV chargers and motor controllers, lead PCB architecture, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring cost, reliability and scalability.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on electronics hardware/product development.
  • Strong fundamentals in analog, digital and power electronics.
  • Experience taking products from concept → schematic → PCB → prototype → validation → production.
  • Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Experience with MOSFET/IGBT/diode selection, gate-driver design.
  • Experience with MCUs/DSPs and their peripheral circuitry.
  • Strong PCB layout for power integrity, signal integrity, thermal and EMI.
  • Experience with circuit simulation and design-analysis tools.
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA, reliability and design-for-cost.
  • Ability to debug hardware with lab equipment.
  • Hardware validation methodologies experience.
  • Strong English communication; collaborate with global teams.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical/Electronics Eng (EEE/ECE) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end hardware development of automotive boards from requirements to production.
  • Design and develop analog, digital and power electronics for BMS, EV chargers, motor controllers, DC-DC converters and related systems.
  • Perform circuit analysis, simulation, component selection and design reviews.
  • Design and review high-current/high-voltage power stages with protection circuitry.
  • Develop MCU/DSP-based control electronics with sensing and interfaces.
  • Lead PCB architecture and layout decisions including thermal and EMC considerations.
  • Drive hardware through EVT/DVT/PVT, validation, debugging and production release.
  • Design for cost, manufacturability, reliability and scalability for 100k+ volumes.
  • Lead hardware troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during development and field deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive electrical, EMC/EMI, environmental, reliability and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with BMS hardware/firmware and other teams to develop production/test equipment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and improve Maxwell's hardware design practices.

Job description

Maxwell Energy Systems is building the next generation of intelligent electronics for electric mobility. Our engineering teams design and develop products across Battery Management Systems (BMS), EV Chargers, Motor Controllers, DC-DC Converters and other automotive electronic systems for leading EV manufacturers in India and global markets.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Design Engineer who can take complete ownership of complex electronic hardware from architecture and component selection through circuit design, PCB development, validation and production.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving challenging hardware problems and wants to see their designs deployed in real products at scale.

What you'll do:
  • Own the end-to-end hardware development of automotive electronic control boards from requirements, architecture and component selection to schematic, PCB, prototype, validation and production.
  • Design and develop analog, digital and power electronics for BMS, EV chargers, motor controllers, DC-DC converters and other high-power electronic systems.
  • Perform detailed circuit analysis, simulation, component selection, design calculations and design reviews to ensure robust product performance.
  • Design and review high-current/high-voltage power stages, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, diodes, gate drivers and associated protection circuitry.
  • Develop robust MCU/DSP-based control electronics, including signal conditioning, sensing, communication interfaces and board-level power supplies.
  • Lead PCB architecture and layout decisions including component placement, current-loop optimization, power/signal partitioning, thermal considerations, creepage/clearance, parasitic inductance/capacitance and EMC performance.
  • Drive hardware designs through EVT/DVT/PVT, validation, debugging and production release, working closely with Firmware, Systems, Mechanical, Test, Quality and Manufacturing teams.
  • Design for cost, manufacturability, reliability and scalability, including products manufactured at 100k+ unit volumes.
  • Lead hardware troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of issues observed during development, validation and field deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable automotive electrical, EMC/EMI, environmental, reliability, safety and functional-safety requirements.
  • Work closely with the BMS Hardware/Firmware teams to develop and validate production and engineering test equipment.
  • Mentor junior hardware engineers and contribute to improving Maxwell's hardware design practices, reviews, component selection and engineering processes.
Must Have Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics hardware/product development within a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong fundamentals in analog, digital and power electronics.
  • Proven experience taking electronic products from concept → schematic → PCB → prototype → validation → production.
  • Strong experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design/review.
  • Experience with MOSFET/IGBT/diode selection, gate-driver design, protection circuits and high-current power electronics.
  • Experience with MCUs/DSPs and their peripheral circuitry, including sensing, signal conditioning, communication interfaces and power supplies.
  • Strong understanding of PCB layout for power integrity, signal integrity, thermal performance and EMI/EMC.
  • Experience with circuit simulation and design-analysis tools.
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA, component derating, reliability and design-for-cost principles.
  • Ability to independently debug complex hardware using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Good understanding of hardware validation and product qualification methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (EEE/ECE) or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Li-ion batteries, BMS, EV chargers, motor controllers, DC-DC converters or other automotive power electronics.
  • Experience working on automotive products and production-intent hardware.
  • Familiarity with Functional Safety (FuSa), ASPICE and automotive hardware development processes.
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with high-voltage isolation, insulation coordination, creepage/clearance and safety-critical hardware.
  • Experience taking products through DV/PV, certification and mass production.
  • Experience working with 100k+ annual production volumes.
