Job summary

Mott MacDonald in Bangalore is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical delivery across projects, from concept to construction, with emphasis on ground engineering, foundation design, and advanced analysis. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and international clients on high-profile projects.

You will guide junior engineers, apply Eurocodes and international standards, and promote digital delivery, innovation, and sustainable design across the project lifecycle.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Bangalore and take a role in the delivery projects across different market. These cover the full spectrum of bridge foundation, Tunnelling, diaphragm walls, ground improvement, deep excavation from the sustainable design of new structures to the use of emerging technologies together with advanced geotechnical analysis to solve some of the most challenging asset management problems. The scale of our projects ranges from small and bespoke design commissions through to some of the most significant infrastructure projects within the UK and worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering design and management of geotechnical projects from concept through detailed design and construction.

Prepare and review geotechnical desk studies, Geotechnical Interpretative (GIR) and Design (GDR) reports following relevant good practice (RGP).

Perform and review technical analysis, calculation, and design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, and seepage studies.

Supervise and mentor junior engineers, c ollaborat e effectively and communicate with multidisciplin ary teams , as well as international clients, and third parties, as required.

Produce high-quality technical memos , reports, and specifications to communicate your work.

Demonstrat e strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning .

Champion digital engineering and promote efficient, sustainable, and resilient design approaches .

Complete assigned tasks in accordance with quality, timescales, and budgeted hours.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives to develop design solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.

Development of functional concept design, development and review of technical solutions, specifications, cost estimates.

Foster a culture of right first-time delivery and work with Project Managers/Principals to ensure effective project delivery.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Candidate Specification:

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in ground engineering and geotechnics, you are able to direct and deliver multiple concurrent projects or one large project on time and within budget. You've designed various geotechnical and foundation solutions using current standards and Eurocodes and have previously worked on a variety of projects. You have strong interpersonal skills and are able to liaise with various clients and build professional relationships. You are comfortable with your technical expertise in the ground engineering sector and have gained various project management skills throughout your career as well as acted in a technical lead capability on numerous projects. You’re an effective communicator and is able to collaborate with all levels of staff and clients. In addition to this, you are a relationship builder and understand the dynamics of working with a team as well as working autonomously. You are keen to develop your digital literacy in geotechnics. You are able to prioritise the needs of the Client to deliver high quality design to meet their needs.

Qualifications:

Degree qualified in civil engineering (BE/B. Tech./ME/M. Tech./ MSc or equivalent).

A post-graduate degree (M. Tech/ Master’s, PhD) in Geotechnical Engineering, Rock and Underground Structures, or a related field is preferable.

Minimum 8 to 1 2 years of experience in geotechnical projects .

Chartered member or working towards chartership (ICE, or equivalent).

Essential Skills and Experience:

Experience in leading teams or work packages on infrastructure projects during concept, scheme, detailed design, and construction.

Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS standards, and local regulations .

Undertake, review and manage soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis , d emonstrable experience in Geotechnical analysis, design and assessment including an ability to undertake and oversee the modelling and analysis of soil structure interaction for diaphragm walls , pile foundation, ground improvement , deep excavation using industry standard software such as Rocscience geo-suite, PLAXIS 2D/3D, DeepEx, Repute, LPile, MIDAS GTS NX, LS-DYNA, RS2/RS3, or similar.

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and new technologies.

Proficient with construction stage analysis for underground structure and deep excavation.

Understanding the use of Geotechnical Investigation report and experienced to suggest Geotechnical Investigation requirements considering the project type and country specific requirement.

Experienced in preparation of Geotechnical Interpretative Report. Providing recommendations based on the report as bearing capacity, pile capacity, soil springs etc.

An excellent understanding of relevant international standards (e.g. Eurocodes , AASHTO, etc. ).

General IT software skills, such as, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ProjectWise, Bentley and Autodesk software.

Experience of digital delivery tools and workflows, for example BIM, parametric design and automation.

Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal)

Experience in the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions would be advantageous.

Chartered member or working towards chartership (ICE, or equivalent) will be an added advantage.

Knowledge about Soil strengthening, slope stabilization, slope cutting on soil & rock, settlement analysis, hydrogeology, dewatering technique.
