Job summary

Golcha Associated Group in India is seeking a Senior Geologist to lead geological exploration, mineral resource assessment and mine geology activities. You will supervise sampling, data collection, and integration with mining teams to support mine planning and raw material sourcing.

The role requires a strong background in industrial minerals, deposits evaluation, geological modelling and project leadership, with emphasis on field investigations in Rajasthan’s mineral belts.

Qualifications

  • MSc/MTech in Geology or Applied Geology/Mineral Exploration; BSc/BTech in Geology or Mining-related fields.
  • Certification in GIS/Remote Sensing or Geological Modelling is advantageous.

Job description

Role Purpose

The Sr. Geologist will be responsible for geological exploration, mineral resource assessment, mine geology, sampling, quality evaluation and technical support for mining and mineral operations. The role will involve field-level geological studies, deposit evaluation, coordination with mining and laboratory teams, and providing technical inputs for mine planning and raw material sourcing.


Key Responsibilities

A. Geological Exploration & Mine Geology
  • Conduct geological surveys, geological mapping and field investigations across mining and exploration areas.
  • Study geological formations, lithology, mineralization, rock characteristics and ore/deposit geometry.
  • Identify mineral-bearing zones and assess the continuity and quality of mineral deposits.
  • Conduct and supervise surface, pit, channel and core/drill sampling activities.
  • Maintain geological maps, sections, field records, coordinates, photographs and exploration data.
  • Prepare geological reports, exploration summaries and technical presentations for management.

B. Mineral Resource & Deposit Evaluation
  • Evaluate mineral grade, quality, geological continuity and commercial potential of deposits.
  • Assess deposit size, depth, variability, mineability and long-term raw material availability.
  • Support resource/reserve estimation and geological modelling wherever applicable.
  • Analyse geological and laboratory data to identify high-quality and commercially viable mineral zones.
  • Provide technical inputs for exploration planning, mine development and raw material sourcing.

C. Industrial Mineral Assessment
  • Develop strong understanding of industrial minerals including talc, soapstone, clay, kaolin, calcium carbonate, quartz, feldspar and other non-metallic minerals.
  • Evaluate mineral characteristics and suitability for different industrial applications.
  • Coordinate with laboratory, quality and production teams for chemical/mineralogical testing.
  • Correlate geological characteristics with mineral quality and end-use requirements.
  • Support identification and evaluation of new mineral sources and potential deposits.

D. Sampling, Testing & Quality Control
  • Plan and supervise systematic geological sampling and ensure sample integrity.
  • Ensure proper sample identification, tagging, preservation, dispatch and traceability.
  • Coordinate with laboratory teams for chemical, physical and mineralogical analysis.
  • Review test reports and identify grade/quality variations within deposits.
  • Maintain comprehensive geological and sampling databases for future reference.

E. Mine Planning & Technical Support
  • Provide geological inputs for mine planning, excavation sequence and mining methodology.
  • Coordinate with Mines Managers, Mining Engineers and site teams regarding geological conditions.
  • Support identification of suitable mining zones based on geological and quality parameters.
  • Assist in mine development, pit progression and mineral recovery optimisation.
  • Identify geological risks that may impact production, quality or mine life.

F. Exploration & Business Development Support
  • Identify potential new mineral deposits, mines, suppliers and raw material sources.
  • Conduct preliminary technical evaluation of prospective mining areas and mineral sources.
  • Support technical due diligence of mines, mineral suppliers and acquisition opportunities.
  • Provide geological inputs during customer/product discussions where required.
  • Track market developments related to industrial minerals, availability, quality and pricing.

G. Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure geological and exploration activities are properly documented and maintained.
  • Support statutory documentation related to geology, mining and mineral resources.
  • Maintain records required for regulatory, technical and management reviews.
  • Ensure field activities comply with applicable safety, environmental and operational requirements.

H. Team & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Coordinate with Mines, Production, Quality, Purchase, Commercial and Business Development teams.
  • Guide junior geologists and field personnel in geological mapping, sampling and data collection.
  • Coordinate with consultants, laboratories, mine owners, vendors and other external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management regarding exploration progress, findings and opportunities.

Educational Qualification
  • M.Sc. / M.Tech in Geology / Applied Geology / Mineral Exploration / Earth Sciences.
  • B.Sc. / B.Tech in Geology, Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering or related discipline.
  • Additional certification in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geological Modelling or Mine Planning will be an advantage.

Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Geology, Mining, Mineral Exploration or Industrial Minerals.
  • Strong experience in geological exploration, mine geology, geological mapping, mineral sampling, deposit evaluation and resource assessment.
  • Proven exposure to industrial/non-metallic minerals, particularly Talc, Soapstone, Clay, Kaolin, Calcium Carbonate, Quartz, Feldspar or similar minerals.
  • Experience in providing geological inputs for mine planning, mineral resource evaluation, quality assessment and raw material sourcing.
  • Candidates with experience in leading geological exploration projects and guiding junior geologists/field teams will be preferred.
  • Exposure to Rajasthan's mineral belts and mining operations will be an added advantage.

Candidate Profile
  • The ideal candidate should be a senior, technically strong and commercially aware Geologist capable of independently handling geological exploration, deposit evaluation and mineral quality assessment activities.
  • The candidate should have the maturity to lead field investigations, interpret geological and laboratory data, evaluate new mineral sources, guide junior team members and provide technical recommendations to senior management.

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred, with practical experience in preparing and interpreting mine plans, geological sections, layouts, sampling plans and exploration drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software, geological modelling tools and other relevant geological/mining software will be an added advantage.
