Role Summary

The Client Application Technology team is dedicated to creating compelling experiences that deliver Reuters's outstanding journalism to the world’s most informed professionals. The team aims to increase discovery, optimise conversion, and drive engagement across Thomson Reuters products and services. The technology focuses on web development and substantial backend service integration. You will work with a distributed team of software developers, quality engineers, and product managers focused on developing and integrating platforms and services that power Reuters experiences, including content creation, curation, publishing, distribution, and e-commerce. As a Senior technologist, you will develop business-critical applications and services for the Reuters news organisation. We provide publishers and broadcasters with news text, graphics, photos, audio, and video over the Internet and via satellite, while also offering web‑scale hosted content solutions to digital publishers.

Major Responsibilities

We seek a talented Senior Front‑End Engineer to join a small, high‑performing team. You will primarily work on web‑based applications, helping architects and builders build them modular, scalable, and performant, while mentoring your peers to do the same. We are a supportive, close‑knit team following Agile Scrum methodologies. We use modern standard and boutique technologies like JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Clojure(Script), Playwright, Docker, and AWS. The ideal candidate is an exceptional JavaScript/TypeScript developer with deep web development experience, well‑formed opinions, an obsession with appropriate abstractions and reuse, and is just as capable of defining the application's data model as they are of building the UI views. Crucially, they know how to strike a balance between pragmatism and perfection.

About the Role:

Work on a team (and in an organisation) that prioritises and respects you as a human being with a life outside of work. Be granted a lot of autonomy (and responsibility) to make technical and implementation decisions. Plan and model technical solutions to business problems. Help architect, build, and test scalable web applications. Write code that you own from ideation to production, and beyond. Educate, lead, and mentor peers (provide code reviews and technical guidance). Estimate work scope to help forecast delivery timelines.

About You:

Ability to self‑direct. Demonstrated ability to turn a brief into a well‑designed technical solution. 6-8 years of professional frontend engineering experience. Deep knowledge and opinions around full‑stack development in the JavaScript/Typescript ecosystem. Keeping up on modern full‑stack technologies, tools, frameworks, and languages. Passion for writing clean, maintainable, well‑tested code. Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs. Adaptability to changing product needs is needed to help seize business opportunities. Ability to make and use diagrams as a means of communication. Solid understanding of TypeScript, Node.js, and React. Infrastructure knowledge for building low‑latency and scalable apps. Professional communication skills - English B2+. Experience performing code reviews and mentoring peers.
