Smart Working is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to design and maintain secure admin portals and dashboards using React, TypeScript, and Next.js. You’ll work across frontend and backend integrations, with a focus on performance, security, and reliability in a remote-first setup.

The role involves building native Next.js apps with App Router, server components, middleware, and API routes, plus implementing server-side authentication and RBAC enhancements.

Qualifications

• Experience developing frontend apps with React and TypeScript.

About the Role

As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining secure, modern admin portals and dashboards using React, TypeScript and Next.js. You will work across frontend development, backend integration and cloud deployments, taking ownership of delivering high-quality applications to production.

This is a hands-on engineering role within a small team, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to product development, improve application performance and strengthen engineering practices. You will independently manage deployments, solve technical challenges and contribute to the ongoing maturity and growth of the platform.

The ideal candidate is a strong frontend engineer who is equally comfortable working with backend integrations, AWS, Docker and CI/CD pipelines, with a focus on building reliable, secure and maintainable applications.

• Build and maintain native Next.js applications using App Router, server components, middleware and API routes.
• Implement and maintain server-side authentication and contribute to improving role-based access control (RBAC).
• Develop and maintain automated frontend tests using Vitest, React Testing Library and Playwright.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines and independently deploy applications using GitHub Actions, Docker and AWS.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs and services, including server-side API gateways.
• Independently troubleshoot deployment, infrastructure and application-related issues.
• Contribute to frontend performance optimisation, application quality and reliable production delivery.
• Participate in technical discussions, challenge existing approaches constructively and propose practical improvements.
• Contribute to product development, identify technical gaps and support improvements to platform maturity.
• Review AI-assisted code and take ownership of its quality, correctness and integration.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience developing frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
• Deep hands-on experience with native Next.js, including App Router, server components, server-side authentication, API routes and middleware.
• Professional experience building and maintaining admin portals and dashboards.
• Hands-on experience implementing frontend automated testing using Vitest, React Testing Library and Playwright.
• Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions. Strong transferable experience with GitLab CI or Jenkins will also be considered.
• Practical professional experience using Docker and AWS for application deployment.
• Ability to independently deploy frontend changes to production and troubleshoot deployment-related issues.
• Comfortable working across frontend and backend integrations, including APIs and services.
• Strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership and the ability to work independently within a small engineering team.

Nice to Have

• Experience implementing or improving role-based access control (RBAC).
• Experience delivering measurable frontend performance improvements.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), including accessible colour schemes, tooltips and multilingual support.
• Experience implementing server-side authentication patterns beyond AWS Amplify or .NET.
• Broader full-stack engineering experience.
• Experience contributing to product improvements and platform maturity.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools while independently reviewing and validating generated code.
