Job summary

Arup in Bengaluru seeks a Senior Fire Engineer to lead fire safety strategies across landmark projects in India and globally. You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and deliver robust fire engineering solutions from concept to handover.

Senior Fire Engineer – India

Arup is a leading global firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. As a Senior Fire Engineer, you will work with a creative, innovative, multicultural and self‑motivated team of fire safety consultants across India, the UKIMEA region and globally.

The role involves the implementation of fire engineering solutions and fire strategies across a range of projects, from conceptual fire strategy and masterplan development through to detailed design and hand‑over of landmark projects. You will form part of the project team, manage junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Manage junior engineers and support project delivery; collaborate with fire engineers and multidisciplinary teams; deliver quality fire safety solutions on time and on budget; obtain agreement for prescriptive and performance‑based design solutions from approving authorities; represent Arup externally with minimal supervision; mentor and develop junior staff; maintain commercial performance on projects.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (fire engineering, other engineering, or architecture).
• Chartered status with a relevant institution such as the Institution of Fire Engineers or close to gaining Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
• 7+ years’ experience in a consultancy or similar environment with at least 3 years in a similar senior position and extensive experience delivering fire engineered solutions.
• Awareness of industry challenges and code changes and experience in implementing them in projects and presenting to clients and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of IBC and NFPA codes and standards would be a benefit but not essential.
• Familiarity with RIBA stages of design or other design frameworks and understanding of the total fire concept across design stages.
• Experience managing other engineers in implementing fire strategies, projects and research initiatives.
• Experience managing financial performance on projects.
• Experience negotiating scope, fee, contractual terms and conditions with clients and managing project changes.
• Experience presenting and discussing design solutions, including fire engineering assessments, to approving authorities and stakeholders.
• Experience teaching, mentoring and supporting junior engineers in their development.
• Excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills, and a collaborative, creative and engaging approach.
• Experience in business development activities and establishing a network of clients or colleagues inside and outside of Arup.
