Job summary

WSP in India is seeking a Senior Engineer – Substation - Civil & Structural to join our Power department. Based in India, you will collaborate with our USA North office and report to the Structural Discipline Lead.

The role focuses on leading design efforts for transmission substations and building a capable team in India. You will apply US design codes, supervise engineers, and coordinate with electrical teams across locations to deliver projects on time and with high quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil & Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• 10–12 years of experience in design and detailing of structural systems and foundations for transmission-level substations or equivalent with US design codes.
• Knowledge of USA structural building norms and codes; AISC steel manual and AISC 360 design; ACI 318 design.
• Understanding of drafting and delivery of construction documents and specifications.
• Proficiency in structural design software (RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, RAM Structural Systems, or similar).
• Strong communication, organizational, and drafting leadership skills.
• Excellent English; professional license in Canada or USA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support USA North PMs: estimate efforts, plan projects, supervise a team of engineers in India.
• Lead structural design for transmission substations and switchyards; monitor deadlines, QA/QC, lead steel and foundation design; coordinate with HV electrical teams.

Job Overview

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Engineer – Substation - Civil & Structural to join our Power department. Working out of our office in India, while collaborating closely with our office in USA, the Senior Engineer – Substation - Civil & Structural will report directly to the Structural Discipline Lead, Power & Energy, USA North. This position will initially be responsible for participating in T&D projects as a technical expert and project lead, with the ultimate goal of building a small team of engineers and technicians in India, who could be semi‑autonomous in delivering T&D projects.

Responsibilities

• Support multidisciplinary project managers located in USA North: contribute to estimating engineering efforts, project planning, and technical project execution (steel, concrete, civil). Supervise a team of intermediate and junior structural engineers in India.
• Lead technical execution for single‑discipline projects focused on structural engineering of transmission‑level substations and switchyards: monitor deadlines, perform QA/QC, lead steel design, foundation design, drafting, and coordinate with the HV electrical team in India and USA North.
• Contribute strongly to building and developing a team specializing in structural engineering of substations, and potentially manage the team.

• 10–12 years of experience in design and detailing of structural systems and foundations for transmission‑level substations or equivalent with US design codes.
• Knowledge and mastery of USA structural building norms and codes; AISC steel manual and AISC 360 design; ACI 318 design.
• Understanding of drafting and delivery of construction documents and specifications.
• Proficiency in structural design software (RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, RAM Structural Systems, or similar).
• Ability to work with minimal direction, take initiative, and prioritize independently.
• Strong communication, organizational, and drafting leadership skills.
• Strong coordination ability between structural and civil design.
• Strong design capability for steel frames, gantries, columns, and structures supporting electrical wires.
• Strong design capability for concrete foundations (drilled piers, shallow foundations, slab on grade).
• Excellent English (spoken and written); professional license in Canada or USA is a plus.
