Job summary

WSP India’s GCC office seeks a Senior Power System Studies Engineer to perform electrical studies for utility and industrial clients, covering generation facilities, substations, transmission and distribution systems. The role requires strong analytical skills and hands-on project delivery.

You will lead studies, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with standards, and contribute to energy transition initiatives across India.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 8-12 years of power system studies experience.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent research and analytical mindset.
• General understanding of electrical design for large capital projects.
• Familiarity with electrical codes, regulations and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Protective Relaying: short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, coordination, relay settings, SCADA integration, NERC compliance, arc flash analysis.
• Power System Planning Studies: steady-state load flow, contingencies, interconnection feasibility, voltage stability analysis, dynamic stability.
• Infrastructure Design Studies: grounding, insulation coordination, power quality, transient simulations.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and project budgets.
• Travel as required by project needs.

The successful applicant will be responsible for performing electrical studies for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Applicable power systems primarily include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, transmission systems, and distribution systems. Responsibilities

• Protective Relaying: short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time‑current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings calculation, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash analysis. Applicable software: AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), AcSELerator Architect, GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, SKM-PTW, ETAP, RSCAD/RTDS
• Power System Planning Studies: steady‑state real and reactive power flow including outage contingencies, generation interconnect feasibility, P‑V and Q‑V analysis for voltage stability margins, dynamic stability performance, automation of large batch simulations. Applicable Software: PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, PowerGEM TARA, Python Scripting
• Infrastructure Design Studies: substation grounding, corona and electric and magnetic fields, insulation coordination (lightning, switching surge, and contamination performance), transient (time domain) simulation, power quality (harmonics, voltage flicker, over/under voltage, etc.), motor starting, AC interference (transmission line interaction with railroads and pipelines). Applicable Software: CDEGS, ATP‑EMTP, PSCAD
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 8-12 years of power system studies experience.
• Must have strong troubleshooting skills
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design engineering of large capital projects.
• Familiarity with relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
• Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules, conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer in Training certification or PE certification is desirable but not required.
• Master’s degree with emphasis in power systems preferred.
• Experience working with models from NERC regional entities (WECC, MRO, SERC etc.), NERC compliance
• Power system courses covering topics such as three‑phase power, load flow and reactive compensation, protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power system transients, dynamic stability, and power system electromagnetics
