A leading engineering firm in Bengaluru is seeking a Senior Engineer specializing in Substation Design. The ideal candidate will have over 9 years of experience in T&D and renewable energy sectors, demonstrated expertise in EMT studies, and proficiency in tools like PSCAD and ETAP. Responsibilities include conducting power system studies and leading the design for high-voltage substations. This position offers a dynamic team environment with significant project responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Substation Design and System Studies / EMT Studies:
Conduct steady-state, dynamic, and transient power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, protection coordination, etc.).
Perform EMT simulations using tools like PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or RTDS for complex grid integration scenarios.
Analyse grid code compliance for renewable energy integration (wind, solar, BESS).
Develop models for inverters, FACTS devices, HVDC systems, and protection schemes.
Collaborate with utilities, developers, and OEMs to interpret study results and recommend mitigation strategies.
Lead the design of high-voltage substations (up to 765 kV) including layout, equipment selection, and protection/control systems.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
Ensure compliance with CSA, IEC, IEEE, and utility-specific standards.
Coordinate with civil, structural, and SCADA teams for integrated substation design.
Support construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering.
9+ years of relevant experience in T&D or renewable energy sectors.
Proficiency in tools such as ETAP, WinIGS, Dig SILENT, Easy Power, PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or AutoCAD/E3D for substation design.
Strong understanding of grid codes (e.g., CEC, CSA, NERC, IEC standards).
Excellent communication skills, strong leadership abilities, and the capability to independently coordinate and deliver high-quality technical reports.
