Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. (VTI Instruments/UEI) seeks an embedded software engineer to develop and secure Linux-based firmware for next‑generation test products. You will address CVEs, perform static analysis, and integrate open-source software while ensuring licensing compliance.

You will collaborate across engineering teams to build robust, secure systems, participate in reviews, and support periodic releases in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BE in Computer Science or Electronics / Instrumentation / Electrical Engineering
• 3-6 years of firmware design experience
• 3 years of experience using C and C++
• Hands-on experience in a hardware/software co-design environment

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Linux-based embedded software, including vulnerability remediation and security enhancements.
• Analyze, track, and resolve CVEs and software security vulnerabilities in Linux kernels, drivers, and user-space applications.
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded C/C++ software for Linux-based systems.
• Perform security assessments, static code analysis, and software composition analysis using tools like FOSSA, CodeSonar, Veracode.
• Integrate and maintain third-party/open-source software while ensuring licensing and cybersecurity compliance.
• Apply security patches, conduct periodic security scans, and reduce system attack surfaces through hardening.
• Establish and maintain build environments, execute regression testing, and support periodic software releases.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, testing activities, and cybersecurity compliance assessments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cybersecurity, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
• Support cybersecurity audits, maintain compliance documentation, and promote secure development practices within the engineering team.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Role And Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded C/C++ software for Linux-based systems.
• Perform security assessments, static code analysis, and software composition analysis using tools such as FOSSA, CodeSonar, Veracode, and similar platforms.
• Integrate and maintain third-party/open-source software while ensuring licensing and cybersecurity compliance.
• Apply security patches, conduct periodic security scans, and reduce system attack surfaces through hardening activities.
• Establish and maintain build environments, execute regression testing, and support periodic software releases.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, testing activities, and cybersecurity compliance assessments.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum BE in Computer Science or Electronics / Instrumentation / Electrical Engineering education
• 3-6 years of experience in firmware design
• 3 years of experience using C, C++
• Recent hands‑on experience in a hardware / software co‑design environment.

Desired Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of processors like PowerPC, FPGA based soft processors (Microblaze), x86 and ARM based microcontrollers.
• Working knowledge with tools like FOSSA, CodeSonar, Veracode etc
• Application development in YOCTO/Buildroot environment and userland (application) programs
• Deep knowledge of system software, and kernel architecture
• Familiarity in Test & Measurement products (Data acquisition & control systems)
• Familiarity with code versioning tools, like Git, SVN.
• Added advantage of having knowledge on REST API’s and Web Server Software.
• Familiarity with CMake build system
• Trained in structured software design, documentation, coding standards and source code / configuration management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
