Job Summary
In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Major Responsibilities
- Leads or administers work of Electrical designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings
- Develops designs for complete and complex Electrical engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed. Ensures Electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Assists in constructing detailed scale models
- Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations
- Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved Electrical design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy
- Participates in constructability reviews
- Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort
- Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents
- Reviews Electrical design scope changes, as required, for project management
- Ensures Electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards
Education And Experience Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience, specialized courses in drafting, design and engineering practices, and CAD, or a recognized diploma.
- Site experience will be an added advantage.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques using S3D, Revit, MicroStation/AutoCAD, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the discipline.
- Familiarity with relevant design standards and guides, skill in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
- Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the discipline’s design responsibilities.
- Basic knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes relevant to the discipline.
- Knowledge and understanding of Raceway, lighting, grounding design and modelling, cable sizing.
- General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
- Experience in using Navisworks for model review and clash detection, proficiency in SPR.
- Extraction and preparation of material quantity take-offs from design drawings.
- Able to work in a team and cross-functional environment.
- Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters who share in the design efforts.
