Senior DevSecOps / Platform Engineer (Tech Lead)

What You Will Do
As a Senior DevSecOps / Platform Engineer (Tech Lead), you will play a critical role in defining, implementing, and evolving cloud technologies, platform engineering capabilities, and DevSecOps practices supporting Platform Services India within the Software Defined Vehicle ecosystem.
You will be the technical leader of the stable team and will be accountable for technical direction, architecture realization, platform engineering maturity, security, reliability, operational excellence, and engineering quality. You will work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Engineers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable platform capabilities aligned with Volvo's North Star Architecture.
You will drive the adoption of Platform Engineering, Cloud Native Engineering, DevSecOps, Kubernetes platforms, Observability, Developer Self-Service, AI-enabled Engineering Practices, and Runtime Reliability across the Platform Services portfolio.
Beyond technical delivery, you will mentor engineers, establish engineering standards, promote technical excellence, and help evolve our platform capabilities to improve developer productivity and software delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Platform Strategy
- Act as Tech Lead for the stable team and own technical direction and engineering decisions.
- Drive engineering excellence, technical quality, standards, and best practices.
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Drive technical roadmap realization, modernization initiatives, and technical debt reduction.
- Balance business priorities with long-term platform sustainability and technology strategy.
Architecture & Platform Engineering
- Collaborate with architects to realize target architectures and strategic technology direction.
- Design secure, scalable, resilient, observable, and maintainable platform solutions.
- Drive platform engineering capabilities, self-service platforms, and developer experience improvements.
- Establish engineering guardrails and non-functional requirements covering security, scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Build reusable platform capabilities that accelerate product team delivery.
- Lead adoption of DevSecOps and secure software delivery practices.
- Drive CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and automation capabilities.
- Design and evolve Kubernetes and OpenShift platform capabilities.
- Govern platform security, compliance, cloud-native engineering practices, and operational standards.
- Support platform lifecycle management, upgrades, resiliency, and operational readiness.
Reliability, Observability & Operations
- Drive platform reliability, operational excellence, and SRE practices.
- Define and measure service objectives, operational KPIs, and platform health metrics.
- Lead observability initiatives covering monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and telemetry.
- Support major incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure platform stability, resilience, recoverability, and operational effectiveness.
AI-Enabled Engineering
- Promote adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices.
- Evaluate and implement AI use cases across DevSecOps, Platform Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Observability, and Operations.
- Leverage tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and intelligent automation platforms to improve engineering productivity.
- Drive responsible AI adoption focused on measurable engineering and business outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of overall industry experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or related domains.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in DevSecOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Kubernetes Platform Engineering, or related technical areas.
- Proven experience operating as a Tech Lead, Senior Platform Engineer, Senior DevSecOps Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives, driving architecture realization, and influencing technical decisions across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Experience working in Agile environments, preferably SAFe.
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes and OpenShift platform engineering and operations.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, ArgoCD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD automation.
- Strong understanding of Cloud Security, DevSecOps, Vulnerability Management, Compliance, and Secure SDLC.
- Experience with Splunk or equivalent observability platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Linux, networking, firewalls, API gateways, and cloud infrastructure.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to influence without authority and build alignment across teams.
- Experience in mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams and multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of Generative AI concepts and AI-assisted engineering practices.
- Experience with tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or similar AI-enabled engineering platforms is highly desirable.
- Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and emerging technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Kubernetes Certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS)
- Experience in Automotive, Embedded Software, or Software Defined Vehicle domains
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams
- Experience implementing Platform Engineering practices at scale
