Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to design, automate, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure using AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code.

The ideal candidate will run production Kubernetes workloads, build robust CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Jenkins, and implement monitoring, security, and cost-optimization practices across distributed systems to support our digital platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in DevOps / Cloud Engineering roles.
• Hands-on AWS production experience.
• Strong IaC experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform.
• Kubernetes administration in production.
• CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Scripting in Python, Go, or Shell.
• Experience with Postgres and MongoDB.
• Linux fundamentals and troubleshooting.
• Security best practices in infrastructure and applications.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

TEGNA islooking for a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer with strongexpertisein AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code to design, automate, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience operating Kubernetes workloads in production, building CI/CD pipelines, and implementing monitoring and security best practices. This role requires deep technicalexpertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in fast‑paced, distributed environments.

You will play a key role in ensuring platform reliability, automation maturity, and production stability across cloud‑native microservices systems.

WhatYou’llDo

• Design and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform).
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins to enable automated and reliable deployments.
• Deploy, manage, and scale Kubernetes clusters in production.
• Implement containerization strategies using Docker and manage microservices‑based architectures.
• Set up andmaintainmonitoring and observability solutions using Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and Kubernetes‑native monitoring tools.
• Design and manage API traffic handling using REST,gRPC, Protocol Buffers, API Gateway, and load‑balancing strategies.
• Ensure infrastructure and application security best practices including OWASP compliance, static code analysis, and container security.
• Troubleshoot performance issues, outages, and scaling challenges in production environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, data, and security teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in DevOps / Cloud Engineering roles.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with AWS services in production environments.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform).
• Deepexpertisein Kubernetes administration and production operations.
• Strong experience with Docker and cloud‑native microservices architecture.
• Hands‑on experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins.
• Proficiencyin at least one scripting/programming language: Python, Go, or Shell scripting.
• Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MongoDB).
• Strong Linux fundamentals and system‑level troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of infrastructure and application security best practices.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS data services such as DMS, Glue, Athena, or Redshift.
• Experience working in start‑up or high‑growth environments.
• Experience collaborating with distributed / remote teams.
• Exposure to advanced observability, performance tuning, or cost optimization strategies.
