Senior Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineer

About the Role

We are growing our Platform Engineering organization with a Senior Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineer who will help us make engineering teams faster, happier, and more productive. Our Platform Engineering team brings together engineers who care deeply about the day-to-day experience of writing, building, testing, and shipping software, all working toward a common mission: removing friction so product engineers can focus on building value for our organization and its customers.

In this role, you will be responsible for the tools, platforms, and workflows that developers rely on every day — from local development environments and build systems to CI/CD pipelines and self-service infrastructure. You will work fluently across multiple application stacks, understanding how each is built, tested, and deployed, and use that understanding to design golden paths that work for everyone. You will also measure what matters, turning developer feedback and engineering signals into a clear picture of where friction lives and what to fix next.

This is a high-impact position for someone who thrives at the intersection of platform engineering, build/release tooling, and developer productivity research.

Your responsibilities
Internal Developer Platform & Self-Service Infrastructure
  • Design, build, and maintain self-service infrastructure and golden paths that let engineers provision environments, services, and pipelines without manual hand-offs.
  • Partner with product engineering teams to codify best practices (scaffolding, templates, reusable modules) into the platform.
  • Own and evolve the internal developer platform, balancing flexibility for teams with consistency and guardrails for the org.
CI/CD & Build Systems
  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) that are fast, reliable, and easy for teams to adopt across a range of application stacks.
  • Improve build performance, caching, and dependency management across Node.js, Go, Python, .NET, and other stacks in use.
  • Define and evolve infrastructure-as-code standards (e.g., Terraform) to support consistent, repeatable environment and pipeline provisioning.
Local Developer Environment & Tooling
  • Build and maintain tooling, CLIs, and environment configurations that streamline local setup, onboarding, and day-to-day inner-loop development.
  • Reduce environment drift and “works on my machine” issues by improving parity between local, CI, and production environments.
  • Evaluate and roll out developer tooling (IDE integrations, dev containers, linters, code generators) that meaningfully improve daily workflows.
DevEx Measurement & Productivity Research
  • Define and track developer experience and productivity metrics (e.g., DORA, SPACE) to identify friction points across the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Run developer surveys, interviews, and workflow audits to surface pain points, then translate findings into a prioritized improvement roadmap.
  • Build dashboards and reports that give engineering leadership visibility into developer experience trends over time.
  • Partner with engineering teams across different application stacks (Node.js, Go, Python, .NET, and others) to understand their build tools, dependency ecosystems, and design patterns, and tailor platform solutions accordingly.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, developer experience, or a closely related technical domain.
  • Strong, hands‑on understanding of multiple application stacks — such as Node.js, Go, Python, and .NET — including their build tools, dependency management, and common design patterns.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools such as GitHub Actions (or comparable tools like GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI).
  • Hands‑on experience with infrastructure-as-code, particularly Terraform, for provisioning environments and platform infrastructure.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Solid scripting and automation skills, and the ability to build internal tools and CLIs that other engineers rely on daily.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across many engineering teams with differing stacks, priorities, and levels of platform maturity.
  • Hands‑on experience building with AI tools, agents, or agent harnesses — e.g., developing custom coding agents, agentic workflows, or integrating LLM‑based tooling into developer or platform workflows.
Nice to Have
  • Experience defining or tracking developer productivity frameworks such as DORA metrics or SPACE.
  • Familiarity with internal developer platform frameworks or portals (e.g., Backstage or similar).
  • Exposure to observability tooling (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) as it relates to build and pipeline health.
  • Experience running structured developer experience research — surveys, interviews, or workflow audits — and turning results into a roadmap.
  • Idea-driven — you regularly bring your own ideas to the table rather than waiting to be told what to build.
  • Motivated by hard, ambiguous problems — you're energized by the challenge of making developer experience meaningfully better, not just maintaining what already exists.
  • Driven by the problem, not the tool — you start from the friction developers actually feel and reach for whatever solves it, rather than building tooling for the sake of building tooling.
