Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer - Product Design & Development with strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, SolidWorks, reverse engineering, pneumatic systems and new product development.
This is an end-to-end product development role involving concept development, reverse engineering, 3D modelling, prototyping, testing, validation, manufacturing and production support.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical & Product Design
- Design and develop automotive, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial products using SolidWorks.
- Create 3D models, part drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views and manufacturing drawings.
- Prepare and manage BOMs and engineering documentation.
- Apply GD&T, tolerance stack-up, fits, clearances and material selection.
- Ensure designs are reliable, manufacturable, serviceable and cost-effective.
Reverse Engineering & New Product Development
- Reverse engineer automotive, pneumatic and mechanical components and assemblies.
- Study existing products and identify design parameters and improvement opportunities.
- Perform measurements, material identification, tolerance evaluation and functional benchmarking.
- Convert physical components, samples and concepts into accurate 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
- Drive improvements in cost, weight, durability, localization and design simplification.
Pneumatic System Design
- Design pneumatic circuits and systems involving valves, actuators, reservoirs, manifolds, fittings and hoses.
- Select pneumatic components based on pressure, flow, temperature and application requirements.
- Troubleshoot leakage, pressure drop, flow restriction and system-performance issues.
- Integrate pneumatic systems with mechanical, electrical and electronic components where required.
Prototype Development & Testing
- Plan and execute prototype fabrication, assembly and testing.
- Develop testing procedures, test rigs, validation plans and acceptance criteria.
- Analyze prototype and field-test results and implement design modifications.
- Perform engineering calculations, pressure calculations, flow analysis and failure/root-cause analysis.
- Ensure products meet functional, safety, durability and quality requirements.
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Work with machining, fabrication, welding, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, forging, extrusion and 3D printing processes.
- Coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
- Support tooling, fixtures, jigs and inspection requirements.
- Drive cost optimization without compromising performance or reliability.
- Support transition from prototype to serial production.
Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with vendors for component development and sourcing.
- Communicate drawings, specifications, tolerances and quality requirements.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities and support development of new components.
- Resolve technical, quality, fitment and performance issues with suppliers.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, Sales, Service and Field teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering or related field.
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical product design and development.
- Strong experience in reverse engineering and new product development.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including part modelling, assembly modelling, sheet metal, surfacing and manufacturing drawings.
- Practical knowledge of pneumatic systems and component selection.
- Experience in automotive, industrial equipment, machinery, pneumatic products or related sectors.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, material selection and BOM management.
- Experience in prototype development, testing, validation, troubleshooting and production support.
- Experience working with suppliers, vendors and manufacturing teams.
- Comfortable working on the shop floor, at vendor premises and during field trials.
Good to Have
- FEA, CFD, flow simulation and pressure-system calculations.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electromechanical and automotive systems.
- DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, DFA, APQP, PPAP and root-cause analysis.
- PLM/PDM and engineering change-management systems.
- ISO, automotive and product-quality standards.
- Experience taking a product from a physical sample or initial concept through commercial production.
Salary & Career Growth
CTC: ₹5,00,000 - ₹6,50,000 per annum, based on demonstrated hands-on engineering capability.
