Job summary

Softel Technologies Inc. is seeking an urgent Senior Database Developer (MySQL) in Hyderabad. The role requires 7+ years of experience in database development, engineering or architecture, with hands-on MySQL and AWS RDS expertise.

You will also develop Power BI dashboards and lead data architecture initiatives. Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this mid-management position requires strong SQL skills, database design, performance tuning, and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of database development, engineering or architecture with senior/lead responsibilities.
• Hands-on MySQL development and AWS RDS administration experience.
• PostgreSQL development, indexing, backup, recovery and performance tuning.
• Expert SQL skills including joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions and optimization.
• Knowledge of RDBMS architecture, schema design, normalization, transactions and data modeling.
• Experience with replication, high availability, failover, backup/recovery and security.
• Power BI integration with MySQL and other data sources; data modeling and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead database development, administration, architecture and optimization using MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Administer MySQL on AWS RDS, including replication, backup, failover, scaling and monitoring.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data objects.
• Design schemas, ER models, and dimensional models including star/snowflake schemas.
• Troubleshoot slow queries, locking, deadlocks, and resource bottlenecks.
• Ensure data security, data integrity, and capacity planning.
• Support migrations, upgrades, cloud adoption and production incident resolution.
• Develop Power BI dashboards, models, KPIs and transformations; manage refresh and security.
• Lead technical reviews, mentor juniors, maintain coding standards and docs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead database development, administration, architecture, and optimization using MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Administer MySQL on AWS RDS, including replication, high availability, backup, recovery, failover, scaling, monitoring, and disaster recovery.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, indexes, and other database objects.
• Design database schemas, ER diagrams, logical and physical data models, normalized databases, and dimensional models, including star and snowflake schemas.
• Troubleshoot slow queries, execution plans, locking, deadlocks, transaction issues, and resource bottlenecks.
• Implement database security, access controls, data integrity, capacity planning, and performance monitoring.
• Support database migrations, upgrades, modernization, cloud adoption, and production incident resolution.
• Develop Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, DAX measures, KPIs, and Power Query transformations.
• Optimize Power BI models, queries, refresh processes, and reports; manage Power BI Service, gateways, workspaces, scheduled refreshes, and Row-Level Security (RLS).
• Validate reports against source database data and provide actionable business insights.
• Lead technical reviews, mentor junior developers, establish coding standards, and maintain technical documentation.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of progressive experience in database development, engineering, or architecture, including senior/lead responsibilities.
• Strong hands-on experience with MySQL development and administration, including AWS RDS.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL database development, administration, indexing, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
• Expert-level SQL skills: complex joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, execution plans, and query optimization.
• Strong knowledge of RDBMS architecture, schema design, normalization, indexing, transactions, concurrency, data integrity, and data modeling.
• Experience with replication, high availability, failover, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and database security.
• Hands-on Power BI experience, including DAX, Power Query, dashboards, KPIs, semantic models, data modeling, and report optimization.
• Experience integrating Power BI with MySQL and other enterprise data sources.
• Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience with Git, Agile/Scrum, technical leadership, mentoring, and code reviews.

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills

• AWS cloud architecture and on-premises database migration to AWS RDS.
• Cross-region replication and disaster recovery architecture.
• Distributed transactions, consistency models, partitioning, and sharding.
• ETL/ELT, data pipelines, Change Data Capture (CDC), and data warehousing.
• Database CI/CD tools such as Flyway and Liquibase.
• Automated database testing and performance/load testing.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
