Job summary

Virima Technologies, Inc. seeks a senior DBRE to own the reliability, availability, and security of our databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL) on Kubernetes in a container-native, highly available setup. You will design architecture, automate operations, and guide domain teams on optimal schema and query design.

You will lead backup/DR with clear RPO/RTO, implement multi-AZ replicas and read replicas, and drive CI/CD for DB changes while maintaining strong observability and incident management.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of production DBA/DBRE experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL.
• Strong Kubernetes fundamentals for stateful workloads (StatefulSets, PV/PVC, CSI, network policies, PDBs).
• Deep SQL skills: indexing, query plans, transaction/locking, replication, and failover.
• Proven backup/restore & DR ownership (PITR, cross-AZ/region replicas) with documented RPO/RTO.
• Hands-on with automation/IaC (Helm/Terraform/Ansible) and CI/CD for DB changes.
• Observability in practice (exporters, dashboards, SLOs, alerting) and rigorous incident management.
• Excellent collaboration/communication; able to run schema/design reviews with product teams.

Responsibilities

• Choose and operate DB operators/distributions (e.g., Zalando/Crunchy for Postgres) and maintain versioning/patching strategy.
• Implement multi-AZ replicas, read-replicas, and connection pooling/proxying (pgBouncer/HAProxy/Envoy).
• Capacity planning, sizing, and benchmarking; own p95/p99 latency and throughput KPIs.
• Schema/design reviews with domain teams; migration strategies (Flyway/Liquibase/Alembic).
• Own backup/restore (PITR, WAL, GTID), tested DR runbooks, and quarterly game days.

Role Overview

Query/index tuning, VACUUM/ANALYZE/auto-analyzestrategies (Postgres), sharding/replica-set tuning (MongoDB), andInnoDB/Group Replication tuning (MySQL).

DataModeling& Reviews

Partner with domain teams onschema/design reviews, migration strategies (Flyway/Liquibase/Alembic), and query best practices to keep services fast and cost-efficient.

Backup, DR & Compliance

Ownbackup/restore(base backups, PITR/WAL/GTID, snapshotting),testedDR runbooks, and RPO/RTO targets; runquarterly game days.

Implement data retention, encryption (at rest & in transit), auditing, and access controls (RBAC/KMS/Secrets).

Automation & CI/CD

Everything-as-code: Helm/Terraform/Ansible for DB infra;GitOpspipelines for changes, safe rollout/rollback, and automated smoke checks.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

5–8 years as a DBA/DBRE withproductionexperience inPostgreSQLplusMongoDBandMySQL(at least two in depth).

Strong Kubernetes fundamentals for stateful workloads (StatefulSets, PV/PVC, CSI, network policies, PDBs).

Deep skills in SQL, indexing, query plans, transaction/locking, replication, and failover.

Provenbackup/restore & DRownership (PITR, cross-AZ/region replicas) with documented RPO/RTO.

Hands-on with automation/IaC(Helm/Terraform/Ansible) and CI/CD for DB changes.

Observability in practice (exporters, dashboards, SLOs, alerting) and rigorous incident management.

Excellent collaboration/communication; confident running schema/design reviews with product teams.
