Job summary

Cermati, a fintech startup, seeks a senior data platform engineer in Bangalore to lead our data platform roadmap and guide a team of 5–10 engineers. You will help shape architecture, review code, and deliver robust features across the data stack.

Bring deep Java expertise, Linux, SQL/PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and a modern cloud toolkit (GCP, BigQuery, Apache Flink) to build scalable data solutions. Prior data platform experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Based in Bangalore.
• Hands-on Java for 5+ years in enterprise projects.
• Knowledge of dependency injection and unit testing frameworks.
• Proficient in Java best practices (Effective Java).
• Experience with multi-threaded Java and memory model concepts.
• Familiar with Java concurrency practices (Goetz).
• Strong Linux system knowledge (monitoring and ops).
• Depth of SQL and PostgreSQL experience.
• Good working knowledge of Kubernetes.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
• Data platform team experience is helpful.
• Experience with Apache Flink.

Job Description

The candidate will lead the technical roadmap for the data platform team, which consists of 5-10 talented but possibly inexperienced team members.

The candidate will typically perform the following roles

• Lay out the technical roadmap for the next n months from time to time
• Mentor junior engineers in the form of code reviews and knowledge sharing about coding and design best practices
• Coding and system design for new features and bug fixes
• Take care of Operations excellence and oncallby monitoring production system

Required

• Candidates must be based in Bangalore. Please do not apply if you're currently living outside Bangalore
• Expertise in Java is required. Please do not apply without having worked hands-on in Java for at least 5years inenterprise projects.
  • Candidate should be aware of dependency injection and how it is used in unit testing frameworks.
  • Candidates should have working knowledge of Java best practices, as laid out in (for example) "Effective Java by Josh Bloch".
  • Candidates should have experience in writing multi-threaded java programs and should be aware of such things as the java memory model.
  • Candidates should be aware of multi threading best practices as specified in (for example) "Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz etc"
• Candidates require a strong working knowledge of linux based systems. This includes both theoritical knowledge as laid out in (for example) "linux system programming by Robert Love" as well as practical experience in linux system monitoring as laid out in (for example) "Systems Performance by Brendan Gregg"
• Depth of experience in SQL and PostgreSQL database.
• Good working knowledge on kubernetes
• Experience in Google Cloud Platform and its data analytics products like BigQuery etc
• Previous experience working in a data platform team will be helpful
• Experience with Apache Flink
