Janes is seeking a Senior Analyst focused on China to conduct open-source research across PMESII risk environments in China and Northeast Asia. You will update core intelligence products, deliver client briefings, and support consultancy projects with high-quality geopolitical data and insights.

The role requires strong Mandarin language skills, extensive OSINT experience, and a postgraduate background in a relevant discipline.

Qualifications

• Must have open-source research experience on PMESII risk environments.
• Strong OSINT capabilities and knowledge of search, visualization, and analysis tools.
• Experience with interpreting and evaluating data to generate in-depth data-driven insight; knowledge of structured analytical techniques.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and producing early-warning and/or scenarios based analytical outputs.
• Proven track record of writing and editing analysis on national security topics, with focus on China.
• Mandarin language skills are mandatory.
• Postgraduate education in a relevant discipline is desirable.

Responsabilités

Job purpose:

Janes Country Intelligence department is seeking a Senior Analyst to conduct open-source research on the political, military, economic, social, information, and infrastructure (PMESII) risk environments in China and the Northeast Asia. The analyst will also undertake quality assurance of data and analysis across countries.

How you will contribute at Janes:

• The role requires an established subject matter expert with research, writing, and peer-reviewing experience on national security issues, with a focus on non-state threats affecting countries in China and the Northeast Asia.
• The role will involve regularly updating Janes foundational intelligence products (PMESII, Country Stability Indicators, and CBRN reports) and engaging in current intelligence research on areas of high priority (political transitions, military coup risks).
• The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering high-quality geopolitical data and insight and offer subject matter expertise, especially on China.
• The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Janes Events team and Janes Military Intelligence team and provide feedback on data pertaining to their area of responsibility.
• The role will involve delivering online and in-person customer briefings and supporting consultancy projects.

The ideal skills and experience for this role are:

• A comprehensive understanding of dynamics across China and the Northeast Asia, especially China.
• Strong OSINT capabilities and in-depth knowledge of search, visualisation, and analysis tools to support information collection processes.
• Experience with interpreting and evaluating data to generate in-depth data-driven insight, and a proficient knowledge of structured analytical techniques.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and producing early-warning and/or scenarios based analytical outputs.
• A proven track record of writing and editing analysis on national security related topics, with a focus on China.
• A highly autonomous and effective team worker with excellent attention to detail and the ability to coach peers.
• A body of previously published work relevant to this role is a plus.
• Mandarin language skills are mandatory.
• Postgraduate education in a relevant discipline. (desirable)
