Job summary

GE Vernova in India (Tamil Nadu region) seeks a Senior Control Automation System Engineer to lead the design, implementation, integration, and validation of HVDC control and protection systems. You will drive architecture decisions, mentor teams, and ensure compliance and on-time delivery.

You will define and verify HMI/SCADA integration, implement IEC 61850, and guide network security across Layer2/3. The role requires deep expertise and a track record in power/substation automation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.
  • Extensive HMI software configuration and implementation experience, preferably Zenon COPA-DATA or Panorama CODRA.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in control and protection system design.
  • Experience in HMI, cybersecurity implementation, virtualization, and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience in IEC 61850 and Ethernet-based protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of Layer 2/3 protocols and network security.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical solution for customer requirements based on the reference design.
  • Define, develop, integrate, and validate HVDC SCADA/HMI and Control & Protection systems.
  • Own the overall design and architecture of the control system and networks.
  • Lead HMI/SCADA integration testing at vendor and supplier premises.

Job Description Summary

The Senior Control Automation System Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, integration, and validation of HVDC Control & Protection systems. This role works across engineering disciplines and supports solution development, project execution, product care, and tendering activities. The engineer will provide technical leadership, drive consistent design practices, mentor engineering teams, and ensure solutions meet customer, business, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical solution for customer requirements based on the reference design.
  • Define, develop, integrate, and validate HVDC SCADA/HMI and Control & Protection systems.
  • Own the overall design and architecture of the control system, communication networks, and cybersecurity implementation.
  • Ability to define and lead HMI/SCADA integration testing at vendor and supplier premises
  • Lead IEC 61850 implementation, system configuration, testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Develop and review network architecture, including Layer 2/3 communication, security, and hardening requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance for requirement analysis, design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Review and approve design documents to ensure quality, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Support customer interface, technical discussions, and training activities.
  • Mentor and coach engineering talent and promote consistent global engineering practices.
  • Continuously improve product delivery speed, reliability, and stability.
  • Ensure cybersecurity and compliance standards are embedded in design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across NPI, ITO, OTR, and Product Care.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.
  • Strong background in HMI software configuration and implementation preferably in Zenon COPA-DATA or Panorama-CODRA.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in control and protection system design.
  • Extensive experience with HMI, cybersecurity implementation, virtualization, and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience in functional specification, HMI design requirements, symbol design, and view specification.
  • Experience in industrial communication networks, including IEC 61850 and Ethernet-based protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of communication network security, hardening, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of Layer 2/3 protocols such as IPv4, OSPF, LACP, DMZ, VPN, DNP, IEC, and Modbus.
  • Experience in power systems, substation automation, SCADA, and digital control systems.
  • Strong background in HMI/SCADA technologies, testing, integration, and installation.
