Job description

The Risk Identification and Assessment Senior Consultant is a key position within Northern Trust's enterprise risk management function, responsible for supporting and refining risk identification and assessment processes across the lines of defense. Reporting to the Risk Identification and Assessment Director, this role collaborates with both the 1st and 2nd line teams.

The core responsibilities include maintaining risk identification standards, implementing emerging and material risk identification processes, and enhancing risk assessment standards, including risk rating and materiality scales. The role involves driving initiatives for comprehensive risk identification, detecting material and emerging risks, maintaining risk inventory technology, and conducting impact assessments to apply materiality thresholds. The Sr Consultant supports adherence to these standards and promotes a risk-aware culture through training and monitoring.

Major Duties

• Support design, implementation, and maintenance of risk identification, emerging risks, and risk assessment standards across lines of defense through training and compliance monitoring.
• Establish and maintain risk ratings and materiality scales used for identifying top and material risks.
• Assist in identifying top, material, and emerging risks.
• Maintain risk inventory technology capabilities.
• Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to proactively evolve the risk management framework.

Experience and Qualifications

• Experience: 9+ years in risk management within a large financial services organization, including enterprise risk management experience.
• Proven ability to design, train, and monitor risk identification and assessment practices, supporting effective implementation and sustainability.
• Experience supporting cross-functional stakeholders and executing independently.
• Familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Compliance tools like ServiceNow is a plus.
• Ability to identify, escalate, and mitigate priority risks effectively.
