Job summary

Guidewire is seeking a Senior QA Engineer - Data Testing / ETL in Bengaluru to validate data quality, completeness, and transformations across end-to-end data pipelines and migrations into Guidewire InsuranceSuite and downstream systems.

You will write SQL-driven backend validations, design test plans, coordinate with data engineers and migration teams, and mentor junior QAs on data testing techniques and reconciliation methods.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years in QA/testing with at least 3–4 years in data testing or data migration.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to validate large datasets across multiple databases.
• Hands-on experience in data migration or ETL/ELT testing in enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with Guidewire InsuranceSuite data models and migration tooling.
• Proven ability to design data test strategies and reconcile results in Agile teams.

Responsibilities

The Senior QA Engineer - Data Testing / ETL is responsible for validating data quality, completeness, and transformations across end-to-end data pipelines and migrations into Guidewire InsuranceSuite and downstream systems. This role focuses on SQL driven backend validation, reconciliation, and non-functional checks, working closely with data engineers, migration teams, and functional QA to ensure defect-free, production-ready data.

Job Description Key Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end ETL testing, including source-to-target data validation, reconciliation, and transformation checks across multiple stages of the pipeline.
• Write and execute complex SQL queries for backend data validation.
• Create detailed test plans, test scenarios, and test cases/scripts based on mapping documents, user stories, and business requirements.
• Design and run reconciliation checks between legacy, staging, target databases, and reporting layers.
• Validate data correctness in target applications to ensure migrated/loaded data supports key business scenarios.
• Log, track, and manage defects to closure using tools such as Jira, including clear steps, SQL evidence, and impact analysis.
• Provide daily/regular test execution and status reports to stakeholders, highlighting progress, defect trends, and risks.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (data engineers, migration developers, functional QA, BAs, architects, and customer SMEs) to ensure data quality and timely delivery.
• Contribute to and maintain reusable SQL libraries, reconciliation templates, and best-practice checklists for data testing across projects.
• Mentor junior QAs new to data testing on SQL, reconciliation techniques, and Guidewire data migration concepts; contribute to reusable data-QA accelerators for PS.

Required Experience

• 6-8 years of overall QA / testing experience, with at least 3-4 years focused on data testing or data migration in enterprise systems.
• Strong SQL skills (joins, aggregations, reconciliation queries) and experience validating large datasets across multiple databases or stages.
• Hands-on experience in at least one of: Data migration to core policy/claims/billing systems, or ETL/ELT and data warehousing / data lake testing.
• Familiarity with Guidewire InsuranceSuite data models and migration tooling.
• Proven experience designing data test strategies, authoring detailed test cases, and executing reconciliation/NFR tests across multiple dry runs.
• Strong defect investigation skills: able to isolate issues using SQL, mapping documents, and logs, and articulate root causes and business impact.
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum delivery with distributed teams (data engineers, migration developers, functional QA, architects, customer SMEs).
• Good communication skills and ability to manage own workload, priorities, and timelines.

Nice to Have Experience

• Experience on Guidewire based data migration projects (InsuranceSuite cloud or on-prem) or similar core system transformations.
• Exposure to cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Fabric/OneLake, Snowflake) and associated ETL/ELT tools.
• Experience with analytics and BI tools such as Power BI or Fabric and with Guidewire data tooling such as Data Studio and Explore, for validating downstream datasets, reports and KPIs.
