Job summary

• Experience producing drawings for structural concrete, reinforcement, steel, foundations and equipment supports.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, review and delivery of civil, structural, and substation design drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit and other CAD/BIM platforms.
• Develop and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models for substation structures and related infrastructure.
• Prepare plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, and fabrication-related drawings as directed.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary models and ensure consistency between models and drawings.
• Mentor CAD staff and supervise drafters across multiple substation projects.
• Maintain CAD templates and BIM execution requirements to deliver quality outputs.

We are seeking an experienced Substation Structural Senior CAD Technician to join our Substation Structural team in Bengaluru, India, supporting North American substation projects. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for CAD and BIM delivery, coordinate and mentor CAD resources, perform detailed quality reviews, and help the team deliver accurate, coordinated, and constructible civil and structural drawings.

This role is well suited to a senior technician or designer with strong experience in structural and civil drafting, multidisciplinary coordination, quality control, and digital delivery for power, utility, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Technical delivery

• Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of civil, structural, and substation design drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit, and other approved CAD and BIM platforms.

• Develop and maintain 2D drawings (and 3D models) for substation structures, foundations, equipment support structures, control and switchgear buildings, duct banks, cable trenches, site development, grading, drainage, and underground utilities.

• Prepare plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, reinforcement details, structural steel drawings, and fabrication-related drawings based on engineering direction and project requirements.

• Convert coordinated 3D models into accurate 2D construction documents and maintain consistency between models, drawings, schedules, and design data.

• Interpret engineering markups, calculations, vendor information, client standards, and design criteria and incorporate requirements accurately into models and drawings.

• Review and resolve drawing comments, redlines, and coordination issues and verify that revisions are fully and correctly incorporated.

Quality and digital delivery

• Perform detailed self-checks and quality control reviews before internal checking and submission.

• Ensure deliverables comply with WSP CAD standards, client drafting requirements, project specifications, and applicable document-control procedures.

• Develop, maintain, and improve CAD templates, layer standards, model and drawing procedures, BIM execution requirements, and project-specific drafting guidance.

• Use the approved common data environment and document-management systems to issue, file, and maintain models, drawings, schedules, and design data in the correct locations.

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality through standardization, automation, and improved CAD and BIM workflows.

Coordination and leadership

• Serve as a technical lead for CAD and BIM delivery and provide guidance on modeling methods, drafting standards, and digital workflows.

• Coordinate closely with structural and civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, and other disciplines to develop accurate and constructible designs.

• Plan and coordinate CAD activities across multiple assignments, communicate progress, and promptly identify schedule, resource, quality, or coordination risks.

• Supervise and coordinate CAD designers and drafters supporting multiple substation projects.

• Mentor junior and intermediate CAD staff through technical guidance, drawing reviews, knowledge sharing, and practical training.

• Assist project managers and engineering leads with work planning, CAD effort estimates, delivery schedules, and resource forecasting.

• Work effectively across cultures, offices, and disciplines while maintaining clear written and verbal communication in English.

Health, safety, and continuous improvement

• Embed health and safety considerations into models, drawings, and day-to-day work practices in accordance with company requirements.

• Promote a culture of quality, collaboration, technical excellence, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

Maintain and expand technical capability by learning new software, digital processes, and emerging design-delivery methods.

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.

• 6 to 10 years of CAD design and production experience for power, utility, industrial, infrastructure, or substation projects.

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and demonstrated experience producing coordinated construction drawings.

• Practical experience with Autodesk applications such as Revit, Navisworks, Vault, BIM 360, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.

• Experience producing drawings for structural concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, and underground ductbanks.

• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, construction-document practices, drafting standards, revision control, and quality management processes.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, estimate the effort required for assigned work, and meet agreed delivery dates.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting North American electric utility or substation projects.

• Knowledge of substation layouts, equipment foundations, steel support structures, control or switchgear buildings, cable trenches, and duct bank systems.

• Experience developing or implementing CAD standards, templates, and BIM execution procedures.

• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary 3D models and resolving model or drawing conflicts.

• Familiarity with CAD and workflow automation tools such as AutoLISP.

• Experience providing technical direction, mentoring staff, or coordinating CAD resources across multiple projects.
