Job summary

Johnson Controls in Bengaluru seeks an experienced Lead Application Engineer I to drive presales engineering for Fire Protection & Suppression systems across verticals such as Transportation, Data Centers and Commercial projects. You will own technical design, costing, and OEM coordination to deliver winning proposals.

You will lead hydraulic calculations, BOQ preparation, and techno-commercial pricing while aligning with global standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in Fire Protection & Suppression Systems.
• Presales and estimation experience across multiple verticals (Transportation, Commercial, Data Centers, Industries).
• Strong knowledge of Fire Protection & Suppression Systems (Fire Sprinkler, Hydrant, Water spray, Gas suppression, NFPA-related).
• Capability to perform hydraulic and flow calculations and select products with deviation/compliance statements.
• Must be able to work on complex costing sheets covering Material, Engineering, Operations, and Subcontract costs.
• Proficient in articulating solutions through high-standard technical proposals and documentation.
• Strong network with 3rd party vendors regionally.
• Quick learner and problem-solving oriented.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; good team player.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end presales engineering activities for Fire protection & Suppression opportunities.
• Handle techno-commercial activities including costings and BOQ preparation.
• Identify risks and mitigate them with customers and suppliers.
• Coordinate with OEMs & subcontractors for right solutions and proposals.
• Analyze proposals and costings against benchmarks to prepare optimized costing sheets.
• Update SFDC, manage timesheets and training on time.
• Negotiate prices with OEMs and OPS/Post Sales teams.
• Participate in daily cadence calls and align with KPIs.

Lead Application Engineer I – Fire Protection & Suppression Systems’ Presales Engineering

10+ years of wide JCI/Tyco and third-party system knowledge for design, detailed engineering and implementation of Fire Protection and Suppression system. Team provides the services and value-added solutions for the system and provides onsite & remote engineering support across the globe for engineering.

What You Will Do

The primary responsibility for this role is to work on end-to-end presales engineering activities of Fire protection & Suppression opportunities from various verticals (e.g., Transportation, Data Center, Commercial, Industries, Fit-outs, Key Accounts, etc.). You will be handling techno-Commercial activities of the projects covering various such as Fire Sprinkler, Hydrant, water spray, foam and gas suppression Systems etc. You should own the technical consideration to win the job and should be part of HOTO process to get the D&E and OPS approval for booking.

How You Will Do It

• Review the project inputs and project intake form shared by the Front desk/Sales.
• Analyze the requirement and initiate the Kick-off call with Front Desk after getting CoE SFDC Code and time frame.
• Prepare designs on given floor plans to arrive with the BOQ; in case BOQ is unavailable.
• Identify potential issues/risks and proactively bring them to the customer's knowledge and help to mitigate the identified risks.
• Initiate the discussion with OEMs & subcontractors and get the right solution and proposal from OEMs.
• Analyze the proposal and commercials received from the OEM and verify the same based on the past data and benchmark costing available in the SCM Database.
• Upon completion of cost comparison, prepare the optimized techno-commercial Costing sheet, Proposal, and Compliance Statements.
• Once the deliverables are ready, perform Self QC and get the 2nd level QC done by the Delivery Manager. Eventually, submit the deliverables to the Front Desk.
• Perform 2nd level QC of the deliverables done by other Application Engineers in the team
• Update the SFDC regularly, and complete timesheet & assigned training on time.
• Actively negotiate and follow up with OEMs and Internal OPS/ Post Sales team to get the right kind of prices for the project.
• Regularly participate in the Daily Call /Cadence Call with the business team.
• Actively derive the strategy for increasing the win rate.
• Align with Organization KPIs such as Quality, Cycle Time, OTD, Win rate, Productivity, etc.

What We Look For

• BE (Mechanical / Electrical)
• Must have 8+ years of relevant experience in Fire Protection & Suppression Systems domains.
• Strong knowledge of Fire Protection & Suppression Systems (Fire Sprinkler, Pre-action system, Water spray, standpipe & hose system, Hydrant network, Fire water storage, Stationary pumps, Foam suppression, water mist system, Kitchen hood system, Gas Suppression – FM, Novec, Inergen & Co2 etc.).
• Knowledge in Building Management System will be added advantage for the role.
• Must have presales and estimation experience on various verticals (Transportation, Commercial, Fit-outs, Industries, Data Centers, etc.).
• Capable of performing hydraulic and flow calculation and doing product selections along with the deviation/compliance statements.
• Must be able to work on complex costing sheets covering Material, Engineering, Operations, and Subcon costs.
• Skill in articulating offered solutions in a structured way through high-standard technical proposal documents.
• Must build a strong network with the 3rd party vendors regionally specific.
• Must be a quick learner & keen on problem-solving techniques.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Must be a good team player.

Preferred

• Experienced in designing Fire Protection & Suppression systems (fire hydrant, sprinkler, HVWS, MVWS, Foam, Water Mist, Gas Suppression) per NFPA, BSEN, Vds, TAC, and NBC norms.
• Proficient in hydraulic and flow calculations using SprinkCAD, Fire-CAD, ANSUL, and HYGOOD.
• Preparing the bill of quantity (BOQ) & material track sheet as per approved / shop drawings and material technical data sheet.
• Coordination with consultants / clients for contractual clarifications and to get the approval of design.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Sprink CAD, Fire CAD, Navis and Excel.
