Job summary

Eightx is hiring a Senior Accountant to own a portfolio of eCommerce clients, leading month-end close, financial analysis, and serving as the primary accounting contact. You will mentor juniors, flag risks, and deliver high-quality insights with a focus on multi-currency environments.

You will work with platforms including NetSuite, Shopify, Amazon Seller/Vendor Central, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and more. 2:00 AM - 10:00 AM PST availability is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of bookkeeping and/or accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a senior role.
• Strong proficiency in Xero; QuickBooks Online a plus.
• Experience with eCommerce accounting (Shopify, Amazon Seller/Vendor) and multi-currency environments.
• Solid understanding of accrual-basis accounting, prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, and FX revaluation.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; able to interact directly with clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end close for a portfolio of 3–5 eCommerce clients.
• Maintain working papers for fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals, and balance sheet accounts.
• Post accruals and investigate P&L variances across revenue streams.
• Coordinate with tax accountants for year-end entries and postings.
• Perform weekly bookkeeping and ensure accurate transaction categorization.
• Create/adjust charts of accounts and manage multi-currency reconciliations.
• Reconcile integrations (Shopify, Amazon) to general ledger monthly.
• Handle AR/AP, issue manual journals and adjust entries as needed.
• Manage inventory reconciliations and year-end adjustments.
• Support junior team members and contribute to process improvements.

We provide Fractional CFO and Bookkeeping services for fast-growing eCommerce Brands and Agencies from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom with one goal in mind:

To help eCommerce business owners scale their businesses with more cash and less stress.

This requires a broad range of skills including financial modeling, risk management, understanding of US/Canadian GAAP, financing, audit, investor relations, and more.

We are small but growing fast which means you will get the chance to specialize and grow into future roles.

Lastly, as you might expect of a finance company, we work really hard when we need to, but we don’t work hard just for the sake of it. We don’t miss our kids’ concerts, we work out during the day and we usually sign off early on Fridays.

About the position

As a Senior Accountant, you will take on expanded ownership of a portfolio of eCommerce clients, leading month-end close, conducting in-depth financial analysis, and serving as the primary accounting contact for your assigned clients. You will work with greater independence, mentor junior team members, and be expected to flag risks, identify process improvements, and deliver high-quality financial insights to stakeholders

You will be working across a wide range of tech and software platforms including NetSuite, Shopify, Amazon Seller Central and Vendor Central, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Hubdoc, Dext, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Glew.io , Rippling, Gusto, Bill.com, and more.

What you will do

Time Zone: You will need to work 10am - 5pm PST, with some flexibility for client needs.

Month-End Close

• Close client books two to ten business days after month end, accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain proper working papers for fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Post accruals for missing but expected expenses, using professional judgment where full information is unavailable.
• Review and investigate P&L variances across revenue streams (Shopify, Amazon, Wholesale) and expense accounts.
• Investigate and explain unusual balances such as negative expense accounts, unrealized FX gains/losses, and off-trend line items.
• Coordinate with tax accountants and CPA firms on year-end adjusting entries and ensure proper posting in the accounting system.
• Perform weekly bookkeeping for clients, ensuring accurate and timely transaction categorization.
• Use Xero, QuickBooks Online, and other platforms to create/adjust charts of accounts aligned to internal and client needs.
• Manage multi-currency accounting including FX revaluations, unrealized gains/losses, and cross-currency reconciliations.
• Reconcile Shopify, Amazon, and other eCommerce integrations to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
• Handle accounts receivable and payable, ensuring invoices are correctly dated, applied, and matched to payments.
• Create manual journals and credit memos as required to correct entries and maintain accuracy.
• Manage inventory account reconciliations and year-end inventory adjustments.
• Set up and maintain templates for consolidated budgets and actuals vs. budget reporting.

Client Management & Communication

• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for an assigned portfolio of 3-5 eCommerce clients.
• Respond to client queries promptly and professionally, providing clear and well-documented responses.
• Participate in client calls and prepare/distribute recap notes with action items following each session.
• Proactively communicate outstanding items, open questions, and any risks to internal team leads and clients.
• Prepare and send financial reports, working files, and supporting schedules as required by clients and senior reviewers.

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure clients remain up to date with regulatory filings including sales tax (US/UK/EU), payroll, and corporate filings.
• Research tax obligations (e.g., EU VAT liabilities, UK sales tax) and elevate findings to the appropriate stakeholder.
• Prepare working papers that clearly support financial statement balances and can withstand audit scrutiny.
• Prepare weekly flash reports and monthly financial packages for client review.
• Review the work of junior bookkeepers and accountants, providing constructive feedback and ensuring accuracy.
• Support junior team members by answering questions, sharing best practices, and modeling EightX's standards.
• Participate in team L10 meetings, flag blockers, and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

What you must have

• 3+ years of experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting, with at least 1 year in a Senior or equivalent capacity.
• Strong proficiency in Xero; experience with QuickBooks Online is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience with eCommerce accounting - including Shopify, Amazon Seller/Vendor, and multi-currency environments.
• Solid understanding of accrual-basis accounting, including prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, and FX revaluation.
• Ability to investigate and explain financial anomalies using independent judgment and structured reasoning.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English — comfortable corresponding directly with clients.
• Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving processes and occasional ambiguity.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy — you double-check, verify, and take ownership of your work.
• Available to work 2:00 AM - 10:00 AM PST (Monday-Friday).

Your experience and education

• CPA or CA qualification (Philippines, US, Canada, or UK).
• Experience with Hubdoc, Dext, or Rippling.
• Prior experience in public practice or audit.
