Job Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will manage end-to-end accounting operations, statutory compliance, project-wise Profitability reporting, and management information systems (MIS). The role requires strong ownership of monthly financial closing, project P&L analysis, dashboards, and automated reporting using Power BI and AI-enabled tools.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
A. Accounting and Financial Operations
- Manage the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, provisions, depreciation, fixed assets, and intercompany accounting.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor reconciliations, customer reconciliations, and bank reconciliation statements.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, including Profit & Loss Account, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, and supporting schedules.
- Review ledger balances, investigate exceptions, and ensure proper accounting classification.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and variance analysis.
B. Project-wise P&L Management
- Maintain project-wise cost centres and ensure accurate allocation of direct and indirect expenses.
- Prepare and monitor project-wise P&L, revenue recognition, gross margin, budget-versus-actual analysis, and profitability reports.
- Track project costs, unbilled revenue, advances, receivables, payables, and work-in-progress where applicable.
- Work closely with project managers and business teams to validate costs, revenue, project budgets, and forecast margins.
- Identify cost overruns, revenue leakages, margin risks, and recommend corrective actions.
C. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with GST, including GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, annual returns, input tax credit reconciliation, e-invoicing, and e-way bill requirements.
- Manage TDS/TCS calculation, deduction, payment, quarterly returns, Form 16/16A, and reconciliation with the income-tax portal.
- Coordinate compliance relating to Professional Tax, PF, ESI, Labour Welfare Fund, and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Support income-tax assessments, notices, GST audits, and regulatory queries in coordination with tax consultants.
- Maintain statutory registers, compliance calendars, challans, returns, and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with internal auditors, statutory auditors, tax auditors, banks, and external consultants.
- Senior-accountant roles in India commonly include GST/TDS filings, audit support, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
D. Reporting, MIS, and Dashboards
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly MIS reports for management.
- Develop dashboards for revenue, project profitability, budget versus actuals, cash flow, receivables ageing, payables ageing, collections, and expense trends.
- Build interactive Power BI reports using accounting, ERP, CRM, payroll, and project-management data.
- Create data models, refresh schedules, report templates, and validation controls to ensure dashboard accuracy.
- Use advanced Excel tools such as Pivot Tables, Power Query, XLOOKUP, formulas, and charts for analysis and reporting.
- Present key financial insights, trends, variances, and risks clearly to senior management.
- Management dashboards often focus on receivables, revenue analysis, ageing, DSO, and variance reporting.
E. AI and Process Automation
- Use AI-enabled reporting tools responsibly to accelerate data cleaning, report drafting, variance analysis, and management commentary.
- Identify opportunities to automate routine reconciliations, report generation, invoice processing, and compliance trackers.
- Ensure that all AI-generated outputs are reviewed, reconciled to source records, and handled in line with company data-security and confidentiality requirements.
- Partner with IT, ERP, and business teams to improve data quality and reporting workflows.
F. Controls and Audit
- Strengthen internal controls across accounting, payments, approvals, revenue recognition, and expense booking.
- Maintain complete supporting documents and audit trails for financial transactions.
- Assist with statutory audit, internal audit, tax audit, and management audit requirements.
- Recommend process improvements to reduce errors, improve turnaround time, and enhance compliance.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelors degree in commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CA Inter, CMA Inter, or equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in accounting, statutory compliance, financial reporting, and MIS.
- Strong practical knowledge of Indian statutory requirements: GST, TDS/TCS, PF, ESI, Professional Tax, Companies Act requirements, and income-tax compliance.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Odoo, Tally, SAP, Oracle, Zoho Books, or similar.
- Strong Power BI capability, including dashboards, data modelling, Power Query, DAX, and scheduled refreshes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills.
- Experience with project accounting, cost-centre accounting, budget control, and project-wise P&L analysis.
- High attention to detail, ownership, confidentiality, and ability to meet statutory deadlines.
