The Glove Company in Chennai, India is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead secondary design for HV/EHV substations. You will develop protection concepts, create protection single-line diagrams (SLDs), and deliver detailed wiring and interlock schemes for tendering and project execution.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years in secondary design, strong knowledge of protection relays and metering, and hands-on experience with AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in secondary design for high-voltage / EHV substations (experience up to 20 years considered).
  • Strong knowledge of protection and control principles, protection relays, metering and protection schemes.
  • Proven experience preparing protection SLDs, functional design descriptions, signal lists, trip matrices, logic/interlocks, and detailed wiring/circuit diagrams.
  • Proficiency in panel engineering (layouts, terminal/wiring tables) and creating cable schedules, BOQs and relay ordering documents.
  • Hands-on experience with interfaces to primary equipment, bay controllers, SCADA/RTU and teleprotection systems.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits, FAT/SAT and customer meetings.

Responsabilités

  • Review tender documents and technical specifications; prepare Design Intent Documents and design inputs for tendering.
  • Develop protection single-line diagrams (SLDs) showing protection principles, relays and metering.
  • Prepare Functional Design Descriptions/Standards, signal lists, trip matrices, logic and interlocks.
  • Produce schematic diagrams for control & relay panel interfaces, circuit diagrams for new and retrofit setups, cable block diagrams, wiring/termination diagrams and core sheets.
  • Prepare relay ordering information, cable schedules, BOQ estimates and SCS IO schedules.
  • Perform panel engineering tasks (layouts, circuit diagrams, wiring tables, terminal tables) and create asbuilt documentation.
  • Size CTs/VTs, perform voltage drop calculations for trip/close coils and LVAC power cables, and design auxiliary power systems (LV AC panels, DC panels, auxiliary transformer, battery & charger sizing, cable sizing and selectivity studies).
  • Review and technically vet vendor drawings/offers for control & relay panels and auxiliary systems; conduct vendor offer evaluations.
  • Support FAT/SAT of primary and secondary equipment and participate in customer approvals for designs and drawings.
  • Coordinate with primary engineering, lead engineers, sourcing, factory counterparts and protection/control teams to ensure timely design progress and delivery.
  • Identify technical risks and opportunities; estimate engineering effort for tender costing and propose methods to reduce engineering effort.
  • Attend customer meetings and site visits for tender/project clarifications; act as interface engineer during erection & commissioning when required.
  • Maintain and improve quality systems and ensure ontime delivery of design deliverables.

  • Experience in auxiliary power system design (LV/ DC panels, battery & charger sizing) and CT/VT selection and sizing.
  • Ability to review and technically vet vendor drawings and offers; experience with FAT/SAT activities.
  • Good knowledge of AIS and GIS secondary design requirements.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills; ability to work with crossfunctional teams and interact with customers and vendors.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits, FAT/SAT and customer meetings.
  • Proficient with engineering documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD or equivalent) and standard office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience in relay configuration and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, protection relay vendor tools and bay controller configuration.
  • Prior experience on retrofit projects and modifying existing drawings using red/green markups.
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications in power systems, protection or control disciplines.
