Job summary

GE Vernova in India seeks an experienced Substation Protection Relay Engineer to design and review protection and automation schemes for EHV substations (AIS/GIS). You will work on relay protection, SAS, CRP interfaces, and interconnections, leveraging IEC 61850 and multiple engineering tools.

The role requires 8+ years in EPC environments with cross‑functional teams, familiarity with CANECO, ETAP, DIG Silent, and willingness to travel internationally.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in substation protection relay systems in EHV projects.
• Experience in EPC environments with multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of protection schemes for 765kV/400kV/220kV substations and HVDC projects.
• Experience/knowledge on relay testing, equipment testing, and SAS commissioning.
• Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare engineering drawings (SLD/KLD/PSLD/CRP) in E-CAD tools for substations.
• Design/review substation automation system based on IEC61850.
• Review BOQ and network drawings and interface between CRP & SAS with telecom equipment.
• Review equipment drawings for major substation equipment AIS/GIS.
• Perform CT and VT sizing calculations.
• Design and review LV/LT auxiliary systems and interface with SAS/SCADA.

Job description

• Design and prepare Engineering drawings (SLD/KLD/PSLD/CRP) as per project requirement in anyone of E-CAD Tool (Ex. Engineering Base software/E-Plan/ AutoCAD Electrical/equivalent) for up to 400/765kV Substations.
• Design/Review the Substation automation system based on IEC61850 & interconnections.
• Review BOQ and Network drawings of PLCC/FOTE engineering and need to interface between CRP & SAS with Telecom Equipment.
• Review equipment drawings of major Substation Equipment for AIS / GIS like Circuit breakers, Isolators, Earth switches, CSD, PDM, Transformers/Reactors & associated Conditional Monitoring Devices etc.,
• Perform CT and VT and its sizing calculations.
• Design and Review the control/Power cable engineering in substations.
• Design the LV/LT auxiliary systems for Electrical Substations and interface with the SAS/SCADA.
• Perform/review the protection relay application / setting calculations and coordination including tripping analysis.

Add-on Competency (Optional)

• Renewable project engg i.e. Solar, On-shore / Off-shore Wind, Battery Storage or hybrid.
• HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications.
• Perform/Review the study on Electrical Power systems and load flow and short circuit studies etc.,
• Competency on specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, DIG Silent or equivalent
• Working experience in SAS, Database Preparation in the automation/RTU software
• Review / consolidate the IO Mapping with respect to the scheme drawings/troubleshoot of database issues in SAS system / RTU based system.
• Able to work with different make IEDs, Numerical protection relays and BCUs.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in substation protection relay systems within EHV Electrical Substations, Oil & Gas or Power Transmission industries.
• Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environments with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience of Secondary(CRP/SAS, Aux Systems, Telecom, Interface) engineering up to 765kV/400kV/220KV and HVDC Substations (AIS/GIS/SOLAR/WIND).
• Experience/Knowledge on Relay Testing, Equipment Testing, Control / Protection scheme testing & SAS Commissioning experience (min 1 year) shall be given additional weightage.
