Locus.sh is seeking a backend engineer to design, develop, and maintain production-grade services in Node.js or Python. You will build integrations with ERP/TMS/WMS/OMS systems, focus on reliability and performance, and work closely with Product and Platform Engineering.
You will join a team delivering enterprise logistics solutions at scale, with opportunities to influence architecture and drive improvements in observability and deployment practices.
Battle-tested in 350+ deployments across 30+ countries, Locus is an agentic Transportation Management System for all-mile, all-channel, trusted by enterprises like Unilever, Nestlé, and Siam Makro.
The platform unifies orders, capacity, and carrier networks into one living plan, aligning planning, execution, and settlement so promises become proof. AI co-pilots with guardrails surface risk early and recommend the next best move to protect SLAs and reduce empty miles.
In 2025, Locus joined the Ingka Group (IKEA Retail) family, marking a major milestone in our journey. Backed by the scale and strength of IKEA, we continue to operate independently while accelerating our mission to make global supply chains faster, smarter, and more sustainable.
Since 2015, Locus has been on a mission to make logistics decision-making intelligent, sustainable, and real-world ready. Our platform has powered billions of deliveries across 30+ countries for global enterprises, driving measurable impact in cost savings, carbon reduction, and SLA performance. With the strength of the IKEA ecosystem behind us, we’re scaling that impact even further.
Headquartered in Bangalore, with teams across the U.S., U.K., UAE, and Southeast Asia, Locus brings together 170+ engineers, designers, and problem-solvers united by a single goal: to reinvent how the world moves goods.
Enterprise logistics is complex. Every client’s supply chain operates with different constraints, data, and business requirements. Building great technology is only part of the solution. We need engineers who can understand real-world problems, build reliable solutions, and help make the technology work seamlessly in customer environments.
SDE-2s at Locus work on meaningful engineering problems that directly impact enterprise logistics operations. You’ll build backend services, develop integrations, solve production challenges, and collaborate with Product, Platform Engineering, and Customer Success to deliver solutions that make a measurable difference. If you enjoy solving challenging problems, taking ownership of your work, and seeing your code make a real‑world impact, this is the role for you.
Work in a collaborative engineering team with ownership of well-defined technical components and the opportunity to contribute to end-to-end delivery.
Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services in Node.js or Python that power routing, planning, and execution workflows.
Build and maintain integrations connecting Locus to client ERPs, TMS, WMS, and OMS platforms.
Write clean, maintainable, and production-ready code with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability.
Participate in code reviews, debugging, and production issue resolution to ensure high-quality releases.
Understand customer and business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
Collaborate with senior engineers and technical leads to design and implement solutions for complex logistics workflows.
Identify performance bottlenecks, investigate failures, and improve the reliability of backend services.
Contribute to technical discussions and help evaluate trade-offs across performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Work closely with Product, Customer Success, and Platform Engineering to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
Participate in customer discussions and integration workshops to understand technical challenges and support successful implementations.
Communicate technical constraints, dependencies, and potential risks clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Bring insights from implementation and production environments back to the engineering team to improve the product.
Follow engineering best practices for testing, documentation, code quality, and deployment.
Contribute to improving system observability, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes.
Identify opportunities to simplify integrations, automate repetitive tasks, and improve development workflows.
Take ownership of assigned components, deliver on commitments, and proactively seek feedback to strengthen your technical skills.
We’re looking for a backend engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, takes ownership of their work, and is motivated by building technology that solves real-world problems. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, learning quickly, and contributing to systems that operate at enterprise scale.
4-6 years of experience in backend engineering and development, preferably building and maintaining production systems.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Problem‑Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills and the ability to break down complex technical problems into practical solutions.
Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and contribute to shared goals.
Ownership: Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for assigned projects and deliver high‑quality results.
Good understanding of distributed systems and microservices, including service communication, failure handling, and reliability.
Hands‑on experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling and query optimisation.
Familiarity with event streaming or message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerised deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience building and maintaining production backend services using Node.js or Python.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and production debugging.
Outcome over output: you care about how your work improves system reliability, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes.
Comfort with ambiguity: you can clarify requirements, ask the right questions, and make progress even when the problem isn’t fully defined.
Communication: you can explain technical decisions clearly, collaborate with different teams, and raise concerns early.
Bias to action: you take initiative, investigate problems independently, and seek help when needed rather than letting blockers linger.
Learning mindset: you actively seek feedback, learn from production issues, and continuously improve your engineering skills.
Customer focus: you understand that reliable engineering directly impacts customer operations and business outcomes.
Background in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management.
Experience integrating AI/ML or LLM‑based workflows into software systems.
Familiarity with geospatial data, routing algorithms, or optimisation engines.
Experience building integrations with enterprise systems such as ERP, TMS, WMS, or OMS platforms.
