Unilever Bangalore seeks an SAP Basis SME and Engineering Manager to lead SAP technology strategy, architecture governance, and delivery across Azure and GCP. You will drive SAP Basis engineering, architecture standards, and cross-functional collaboration within Uni Ops Digital Core initiatives.

The role requires hands-on SAP Basis, S4HANA upgrades and migrations, and leadership of several teams to ensure scalable, secure SAP solutions aligned with enterprise architecture.

The SAP Basis Engineering Manager and Subject Matter Expert will be responsible for the delivery of the SAP Solution as per alignment with Enterprise Architecture along with Establishing the Innovation in the SAP arena, as well as drive the delivery of key strategic programs like S4 HANA Implementation, upgrades, migrations and any other capabilities supporting Uni Ops Digital Core ambitions.

Individual will be responsible for SAP Technology activities. His/her primary objective is to understand the Business project requirement, evaluate the latest SAP products Offering and provide the SAP Solution Design as per Unilever standards in alignment with Enterprise Architecture. Also, the person will be responsible to Guide technical teams on Green/Brown Field Implementation/ System upgrade so the environments are current in terms of supportability.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

Technical know-how – Individual should have an appetite to upgrade self in technology space. SAP Basis and Infrastructure knowledge is a must to have to perform this role and you should update skills on a day to basis to adapt the changing technology around us. Act as a SAP Technology /Engineering SME in SAP Technical Services (STS) team, with hands on execution role with SAP Basis expertise. Perform SAP installs, upgrades, migrations & other configuration, or maintenance activities in support of business change programme activities. Also adopt Agentic AI skills/tools as required on demand. Work in support of Specialists in the SAP STS & in collaboration with peers of this role like Infra Structure Specialists, SAP Basis Specialists, Technical Solution Delivery Managers & Other Technology teams across various IT teams of Unilever Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering cost-effective, scalable, secure, and resilient SAP solutions hosted across Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Proven expertise in defining, documenting, and maintaining SAP capability frameworks, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards, business objectives, and operational requirements. Hands-on experience in SAP Products spanning across installations, upgrades, migrations with Architecture elements like Build Sheet creation, validation, and governance, ensuring deployment readiness, configuration accuracy, and implementation consistency across SAP platforms. Ability to establish and maintain SAP Architecture Guidelines, Design Standards, Reference Architectures, and Technical Patterns to ensure stable, secure, and efficient operation of SAP systems. Actively participate in Solution Design Review Boards (SDB) and providing SAP technology leadership, architectural recommendations, risk assessments, and solution approval support. Extensive experience in the creation, review, and governance of Solution Requirement Documents (SRD) and Migration Requirement Documents (MRD), ensuring complete traceability from business requirements to technical implementation. Strong knowledge of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), including the development of architecture blueprints, design patterns, integration standards, security guidelines, and governance frameworks. Responsible for continuously reviewing, enhancing, and updating existing SAP and BTP architecture standards, design artifacts, and technical governance documentation in line with evolving business and technology requirements. Ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, delivery teams, cloud providers, and external partners to drive architecture excellence, standardization, innovation, and operational efficiency across the SAP ecosystem. Provide architectural leadership for SAP transformation initiatives, ensuring solutions are optimized for performance, availability, security, scalability, compliance, and cost management. Champion SAP best practices, cloud adoption strategies, automation opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the enterprise SAP landscape and accelerate business value realization.

Stakeholder Management:

Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project. Take responsibility for the definition, documentation and safe execution of Technical projects, actively participating in all phases of the project. Ensures that realistic technical project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and track all activities against the plan, providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders, as appropriate.

SAP/Infrastructure & Cloud Expertise:

Understanding of SAP Infrastructure components and Architecture. Cloud based knowledge to deliver large complex projects on Cloud. (Azure & GCP) Understanding on Cloud budgeting and best fit pay option to deliver cost optimized projects to business. Co-ordinating with Cloud Platform teams Vendor Management: As part of day-to-day operations continuous involvement with vendor team is mandated. It is expected that person should be able to drive multiple initiatives with team along with the day-to-day operational activities. It is expected that you generate value from your vendor partners and ensure that you generate savings in terms of cost and efforts.

EXPERIENCES & QUALIFICATIONS

Technical knowledge/awareness of SAP Basis from implementation or consulting background. An Engineering mind-set is essential. Analytical, trouble shooting, enquiring, strong desire to remediate/ own problems through to resolution, design & documentation focused, rigorous & disciplined in approach to all activities. Knowledge of Unix – SUSE LINUX / LINUX / HANA/DB2 and Oracle for Application of SAP Broad understanding of SAP products in a Global Environment/ context Broad knowledge of SAP infrastructure requirements (including storage, network, servers, tooling, capacity management & planning) Broad knowledge of SAP Landscape management (System refreshes and release cycles) and main Associated Technologies / Applications (one or more of these applications) Strong SAP Basis Skills & Experience Ability to gain awareness of Unilever’s IT operating framework. Strong understanding of ITIL – service management framework Significant self-motivation and focus to achieve the objectives of the role. The ability to manage and deliver the highest level of service with inhouse team and through strategic partners. The ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels in the Unilever organization and to present recommendations clearly and positively to ensure they are accepted thus demonstrating lateral influence. Driving standards, quality & consistency approach in all delivery work Track record of IT Operational mgmt. & / or exposure to SAP Build/Upgrades and Migrations & successful delivery to agreed timescales.
