Job summary

smartShift is seeking an ABAP Tester to validate ABAP-developed business processes across SAP landscapes from Bangalore. You will own end-to-end testing, drive defect management and work closely with Product and Engineering to ensure quality and reliability.

You will lead STLC activities, test ABAP developments, manage Jira-based traceability, and contribute to QA standards. 5+ years of SAP testing is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years SAP ABAP functional testing experience.
• Proficient with SAP ECC and S/4HANA.
• Experience with Jira for test and defect management.
• Experience across SIT, UAT, and Regression in SAP environments.

Responsibilities

• Independently drive end-to-end STLC activities: requirements, test strategy, design, execution and reporting.
• Test ABAP developments across S/4HANA and ECC landscapes.
• Own test estimation, planning and quality gates for assigned workstreams.
• Manage and track test cases and defects in Jira with full traceability.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to validate workflows and resolve ambiguities early.
• Lead defect triage, root cause analysis and retesting; communicate risks clearly.
• Plan and support SIT, Regression and UAT cycles.
• Build and maintain regression suites; identify automation candidates.
• Drive continuous QA process improvements and reusable assets.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies as the quality voice.

Title: ABAP Tester (SAP QA)

About role

As an ABAP Tester, you will own the validation of ABAP-developed business processes and ensure quality delivery across SAP landscapes. With 5+ years of hands-on SAP testing experience, you will independently drive end-to-end testing lifecycle activities, lead defect management, and work in close sync with Product and Engineering teams. You will leverage tools such as Jira for test management, execution tracking, and defect lifecycle management to ensure high system reliability and business continuity, while contributing to QA standards and best practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Independently drive end-to-end Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) activities: requirement analysis, test strategy, test design, execution, and reporting.
  
• Test ABAP developments and custom objects across S/4HANA and ECC landscapes.
  
• Own test estimation, planning, and coverage decisions for assigned workstreams; define entry/exit criteria and quality gates.
  
• Manage and track test cases and defects in Jira with full requirement-to- defect traceability and timely closure.
  
• Partner closely with the Product and Engineering teams to validate workflows and resolve requirement ambiguity early.
  
• Lead defect triage, root cause analysis, impact assessment, and retesting; elevate risks with clear data.
  
• Plan and support SIT, Regression, and UAT cycles.
  
• Build and maintain regression suites; identify automation candidates and contribute to automation coverage.
  
• Drive continuous improvement of QA processes, test standards, and reusable test assets.
  
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies: refinement, planning, standups, demos, retrospectives as the quality voice for the team.
  

Skills and Experience

Mandatory Skills

• 5+ years of experience in SAP ABAP functional testing.
  
• Strong proficiency in SAP ECC and S/4HANA.
  
• Hands-on experience with Jira for test and defect management.
  
• Proven experience across SIT, UAT, and Regression testing within SAP environments.
  
• Ability to read ABAP code, use debugging and SQL traces to isolate the root cause.
  
• Experience testing interfaces and integrations.
  

Preferred Skills

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant QA/testing experience in SAP ABAP.
  
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to lead testing for a work stream.
  
• Education: Full-time degree (15 years of education required).
