Job summary

NHS Borders is seeking a Rotational Pharmacy Technician to broaden experience across a hospital setting, including dispensary, aseptic and clinical rotations. You will support safe medicines supply, patient counselling, and stock management while developing skills across clinical areas.

The role requires GPhC registration, strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a team, with commitment to CPD and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient supply of medicines and stock management in dispensary.
• Counsel patients as part of medicines optimisation and patient care.
• Assist in aseptic and sterile product preparation in cleanroom environments.
• Engage in clinical rotations across medical, surgical and frailty wards and collaborate with pharmacists and the MDT.

About The Role

This rotational post provides experience across key areas of hospital pharmacy practice, including:

• Dispensary Services: Supporting safe and efficient supply of medicines, patient counselling, and stock management.
• Aseptic Services: Assisting in the preparation of sterile products including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition in a cleanroom environment.
• Clinical Rotations:
  • Medical wards
  • Surgical wards
  • Frailty services
  • Medicine of the Elderly You’ll work closely with pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team to support medicines optimisation and patient care.

Skills & Experience Required

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Is confident using IT systems and managing data
• Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Is committed to continuous professional development

Previous hospital experience is desirable but not essential – full training and support will be provided.
