Job summary

Variety Innovation Venture Private Limited invites applications for a Robotics Data Engineer Internship in Delhi. Immediate start for a 6-month, in-office program.

You will operate multi-sensor data collection, build ROS2-based data tools, and ensure high-quality datasets for model development. Candidates should be strong in Python, ROS2, OpenCV, and Linux; familiarity with robot calibration and standard data formats is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Python with Linux and Git from the command line.
• Solid understanding of ROS fundamentals, including nodes, topics, and launch files.
• Experience with OpenCV, camera intrinsics, extrinsics, and transformations.
• Knowledge of robot systems, URDF, TF, hand-eye calibration, and depth cameras.
• Familiarity with robotics datasets/formats (LeRobot, HDF5, MCAP, rosbag).

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage multi-sensor data collection systems (RGB-D, pose-tracking, robot state interfaces).
• Build and improve data-recording software (ROS 2 nodes, capture services, operator tools).
• Develop data-quality validation pipelines (frame rates, synchronization, dropouts).
• Perform calibration (camera, hand-eye, multi-sensor rigs) and maintain URDF models.
• Develop data conversion/preprocessing pipelines to standardized training formats (LeRobot, HDF5, MCAP, ROS bag).
• Collaborate with robotics and ML teams to create training-ready datasets.

Robotics Data Engineer Internship at Variety Innovation Venture

DESCRIPTION

Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

• 1. Operate and manage multi-sensor data collection systems, including RGB-D cameras, pose-tracking systems, and robot/gripper state interfaces, to capture high-quality demonstration and teleoperation data.
• 2. Build, maintain, and improve data-recording software, including ROS 2 nodes, capture services, and operator tools using Python.
• 3. Develop and execute data-quality validation pipelines covering stream completeness, frame rates, timestamp synchronization, sensor dropouts, and pose validity.
• 4. Perform camera, hand-eye, and multi-sensor rig calibration using OpenCV, and maintain accurate URDF models, coordinate frames, and measured transforms.
• 5. Develop and maintain data conversion and preprocessing pipelines to transform raw recordings into standardized training formats such as LeRobot, HDF5, MCAP, and ROS bag.
• 6. Collaborate with robotics and ML teams to ensure reliable, well-calibrated, and training-ready datasets for downstream model development and evaluation.

Other requirements

Required Skills:

• 1. Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience using Linux and Git from the command line.

• 3. Working knowledge of computer vision using OpenCV and NumPy, including camera intrinsics/extrinsics, coordinate frames, and transformations.
• 4. Knowledge of robot systems and calibration, including URDF, TF, hand-eye calibration, depth cameras, multi-camera synchronization, and pose tracking.
• 5. Familiarity with robotics datasets and logging formats, including LeRobot, HDF5, MCAP, and rosbag.
