The Base Risk Assessment Consultant is responsible for supporting the execution, governance, and continuous enhancement of Northern Trust's Base Risk Assessment (BRA) Oversight Program. The consultant serves as a key contributor to the oversight, review, and challenge of numerous base risk assessments, ensuring consistent application of enterprise risk methodologies, maintenance of assessment data, and delivery of meaningful risk insights that support executive decision-making and regulatory expectations. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and a solid understanding of enterprise risk management principles within a regulated financial services environment.
Support the execution of the enterprise-wide Base Risk Assessment program across Business Units, Corporate Functions, and Significant Legal Entities. Coordinate annual and periodic evaluations of base risk assessments to ensure adherence to enterprise standards and procedures. Facilitate assessment workshops and working sessions with First Line and Second Line stakeholders as needed. Review assessment submissions for completeness, consistency, and adherence to established methodology. Support calibration activities to ensure consistency of risk assessments across the enterprise.
Analyze assessment results to identify risk and control trends, concentrations, emerging themes, and material risk exposures. Provide effective challenge to assessment owners on the structure and execution of their program. Review supporting documentation and evidence used to substantiate assessment conclusions. Escalate material risk concerns and inconsistencies identified during oversight, review, and challenge.
Oversee assessment inventories, data repositories, and related documentation. Prepare management reporting, dashboards, scorecards, and risk committee materials. Develop analyses that support Enterprise Risk Profile reporting and other governance deliverables. Produce executive-level presentations and reports for senior management and risk committees. Support data quality reviews and validation activities.
Build strong working relationships across the three lines of defense. Provide guidance regarding assessment methodologies, standards, and reporting requirements. Assist stakeholders with interpretation and application of Base Risk Assessment Standard requirements.
Identify opportunities, to include leveraging AI, to improve assessment processes, controls, reporting, and data quality. Support implementation of methodology enhancements and remediation initiatives. Assist with automation and system enhancement initiatives related to risk assessments. Contribute to the evolution of the broader Enterprise Risk Management Lifecycle.
