Job Description
The Respiratory Technician will work closely with pulmonologists, intensivists, and nursing staff to provide respiratory therapy and support to patients in ICU, emergency, and ward settings. This requires technical expertise, quick response in emergencies, and a strong understanding of respiratory care practices.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Operate and manage respiratory equipment such as ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen delivery systems.
- Assist in the care of patients with respiratory disorders including COPD, asthma, and acute respiratory failure.
- Monitor patient respiratory status and report changes to the medical team.
- Assist in intubation, extubation, and airway management procedures.
- Perform pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and other diagnostic procedures.
- Provide aerosol therapy, nebulization, and chest physiotherapy as prescribed.
- Ensure proper setup, calibration, and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
- Follow infection control and safety protocols in respiratory care.
- Assist in ICU and emergency cases requiring ventilatory support.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care and device usage.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and ICU teams for effective patient management.
- Ensure proper sterilization and handling of respiratory equipment.
- Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and code situations.
- Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain inventory of respiratory supplies and ensure availability.
- Support clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay updated with advancements in respiratory therapy techniques.
- Work in rotational shifts including nights and emergency duties.
- Maintain professionalism, empathy, and patient confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and clinical guidelines.
- Contribute to improving patient outcomes and quality of care.
