Research Scientist - Textile Auxiliaries and Finishing

As our Textile business looks to deliver its ambitious strategy of growth, we are looking for a Research Scientist to join our organisation to lead the research laboratory for textile auxiliaries and finishing chemicals.

1. Degree qualified in Textile Chemistry/Organic chemistry or relevant subject.
2. Extensive experience in carrying out experiments (research projects) for Textile Auxiliaries and finishing chemicals.
3. Proven expertise in developing formulations for the textile industry.
4. Must have the ability to progress on multiple projects simultaneously to successful conclusion under own initiative.
5. Basic knowledge of use of computer software for reports, analytics, chemical screening, literature/patent search etc.
6. Creative and tenacious with good planning and problem-solving skills.
7. Adaptable around changing project requirements and priorities.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Applying technical knowledge to develop new and existing products to meet market needs which consist of solving both complex and straightforward problems for the pretreatment, dyeing and finishing of the textiles.
2. Design and carry out laboratory experiments. Review the results and seek answers to problems encountered through collection of data and investigation. Propose how to proceed with next experiment/stage of project.
3. Maintain understanding by close coordination within research group and through technical reports to the rest of the business in which complex scientific information is presented in appropriate form for the audience.
4. Set up and carry out plant trials after the development of the products in the textiles portfolio, liaising when necessary with other technical and commercial teams.
5. Propose most viable development routes in projects and consult line manager for support when necessary.
6. Planning and running multiple projects and carrying out experiments of varying complexity to deliver new products on time to the business of Textile and Fibres.
7. Run projects that range from a couple of days to six months or a year.
8. Explore creative solutions to problems within a designed area but is restricted by the core science of surfactants for application in textiles and fibres.
9. Develop and enhance knowledge of technology area and relevant scientific techniques and continuously improve research capability of the team members.
