Job Description
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated RAMS Manager / System Assurance Manager who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate will be comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Bangalore, India.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure delivery of transportation solution systems in compliance with RAMS guidelines and quality standards, within time and budget constraints.
- Provide support for RAMS/System Assurance Planning, including safety management system development, project safety planning, operational safety planning, and safety management system implementation.
- Ensure safety case development and RAM parameter performance demonstration.
- Deliver project RAMS analysis and documents at system and subsystem levels in cooperation with other technology functions, operations & maintenance, and external suppliers.
- Undertake and assess qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
- Implement and check detailed analyses such as FMECA, FTA/ETA, root cause analysis, reliability/availability modelling.
- Provide subsystems suppliers with unambiguous RAMS requirements and minimise supplier turnaround time for subsystem RAMS analysis and ensure V&V evidence.
- Interface with subsystem and systems engineering disciplines (Track, Traction Power, MEP, Rolling Stock, Operator & Maintainer, etc.) and participate in closing safety, certification, operational response, technical issues, failures and mitigations.
- Develop, improve and implement system RAMS standard processes.
- Provide technical support to the RAMS Head for management and interface with independent safety assessors, employers and external authorities.
- Provide schedule and cost progress to the relevant RAMS Manager.
- Provide RAMS requirements, if any, and the hazard log to the relevant product and signalling RAMS engineers.
- Prepare and present the project RAMS management dashboard to management on a regular basis, monitor technical safety KPIs, and proactively manage the closure of actions.
- Support capitalization activities for the project and department as well as lessons learned.
Key Experience Preferred
- Broad knowledge across railway signalling systems, train control systems, fixed and moving‑block signalling principles, relay‑based and/or computer‑based interlocking design aspects, and experience in signalling & train control (CBTC or interlocking).
- Comprehensive knowledge of international system assurance standards (CENELEC, IEC, IEEE, MIL), best practices, safety methods and techniques (HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, SHA, OSHA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, FSA) and hazard management.
- Understanding of systems engineering concepts such as decomposition, deriving requirements, traceability matrix, and ability to extract technical, project, and functional requirements from tender documents, and create system, subsystem, and interface level requirements.
Education / Qualifications Preferred
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) / Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) or master’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, equivalent, or business domain with demonstrated technical experience.
- At least 15 years of experience in the railway or metro sector, including 5–10 years specialising in RAMS for signalling and train control, or automation within industries such as aerospace and defence.
- Experience managing the systems assurance of at least one railway project of similar nature.
- Successful track record handling system assurance management in accordance with EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129 for metro and railway projects.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering, software engineering and functional safety.
- Detailed knowledge of system safety lifecycle, safety design concepts and risk analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with system safety, validation, safety planning, safety approval and certification, RAMS engineering, software safety assessment, hazard management, safety case.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate technical staff.
- Strong MS Office skills and project management tools & software.
- Good technical writing skills, excellent communication and analytical skills; excellent command of the English language and local language, both written and oral.
