Job summary

Arup is seeking a Digital Signalling Engineer based in Bangalore to support design, integration and verification of digital railway systems for UK and international markets. You will work under the Digital Signalling Lead and India Rail Engineering Leader, contributing to multi-disciplinary projects and delivering signalling deliverables.

Ideal candidates have 5–8 years in railway signalling, familiarity with EN standards, and proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, DOORS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5–8 years of experience in railway signalling or digital railway systems.
  • Experience with ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC, ATP, ATO, ATS or digital railway programmes.
  • Familiarity with EN 50126/28/29 standards and design documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and integration of ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC, ATP, ATO, ATS and digital railway systems.
  • Prepare signalling design deliverables: specifications, interface documents, design reports, layouts and equipment drawings.
  • Participate in system reviews, integration, verification, validation and safety activities.
  • Manage interfaces between signalling, telecoms, power, rolling stock and operations.
  • Contribute to requirements management and systems engineering lifecycle improvements.

The Digital Signalling Engineer will support the design, integration, verification, and delivery of digital signalling and train control systems for multidisciplinary rail projects across the UK and other international markets. Based in Bangalore, the role reports to the Digital Signalling Lead and India Rail Engineering Leader.

Responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

  • Support design and integration of ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC, ATP, ATO, ATS, and digital railway systems.
  • Prepare signalling design deliverables, including specifications, interface documents, design reports, layouts, and equipment drawings.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, system integration, verification, validation, and safety activities.
  • Manage interfaces between signalling, telecoms, power, rolling stock, and operational systems.
  • Contribute to requirements management, systems engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.

If this role right for you?

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in railway signalling or digital railway systems.
  • Experience with ETCS, ERTMS, CBTC, ATP, ATO, ATS, RBC, or Digital Railway programmes.
  • Strong understanding of railway signalling principles, interface management, and systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129 standards.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary railway projects and preparing technical documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of UK Network Rail or international railway standards.
  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, DOORS, IBM Engineering Requirements Management, ProjectWise, and Microsoft Office.
  • ETCS/CBTC training, Systems Engineering certification, or similar qualifications are desirable.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and coordination skills.
