Job summary

Varun Group Of Companies in Gujarat, India, seeks a laboratory professional to oversee CI casting production testing and metallurgical analysis. You will conduct chemical analysis, monitor alloying elements, perform thermal studies, and ensure sand, moulding, and core properties meet stringent specifications.

You will also evaluate microstructure, hardness, and mechanical properties; investigate defects; and coordinate with Melting, Moulding, Core Shop, and Quality teams to enhance casting

Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise all laboratory activities related to CI casting production.
• Conduct chemical analysis of molten metal using spectrometer and ensure composition meets specification.
• Monitor carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and other alloying elements.
• Perform thermal analysis and recommend corrective actions before pouring.
• Conduct sand testing, including moisture, permeability, green compression strength, compactability, clay content, and LOI.
• Ensure moulding and core sand properties are maintained within specified limits.
• Carry out metallurgical testing, including microstructure evaluation, hardness testing, and mechanical property testing.
• Analyze graphite structure, carbide formation, chill depth, and matrix structure as per standards.
• Investigate casting defects through metallurgical analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate with Melting, Moulding, Core Shop, and Quality departments to improve casting quality.
• Ensure calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment such as spectrometer, thermal analyzer, hardness tester, microscope, and sand testing equipment.
• Prepare laboratory reports, test records, certificates, and maintain complete documentation.
• Monitor process parameters and ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality standards.
• Support new product development (NPD), trial batches, PPAP, and process validation activities.
• Participate in root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, and CAPA methodologies.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rejection and improve process capability.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, environmental, and safety requirements.
• Train laboratory technicians and operators on testing procedures and laboratory best practices.
• Coordinate with customers and auditors during quality audits and technical discussions.
