Job summary

ACS-I India is seeking a junior automation QA engineer to join the Quality Engineering team in Pune. You will write, maintain, and run automated tests for web applications and APIs, guided by senior engineers and empowered by GenAI tools to improve efficiency while ensuring test quality.

The role targets early-career automation engineers; junior members will handle assigned tests with close guidance, while more experienced engineers may own automation for a module and mentor others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, chemical engineering, chemistry, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• 1–4 years of software QA experience, including at least 1 year of automation.
• Programming in Java or Python with solid fundamentals.
• UI automation with Selenium WebDriver and a test runner (TestNG or PyTest/Unittest).
• Experience with Git and PR workflows; basic CI with Jenkins or similar.
• API testing with Karate, Postman, or similar tools; understanding REST/JSON/HTTP.
• Strong debugging, log analysis, and defect management skills.

Responsibilities

Position: QA Engineer

ACS-I India is looking for a junior automation QA engineer with one to four years of experience to join the Quality Engineering team. The engineer writes, maintains, and runs automated tests for web applications and APIs that support chemical, scientific, and laboratory data. The work is done with guidance from senior engineers, and the engineer uses GenAI assistants to work faster while remaining responsible for the quality of every test committed.

The role suits engineers early in their automation career. Engineers at the lower end of the range work on assigned tests and fixes with close guidance. Engineers at the upper end own automation for a module of the product and support newer team members.

Job Responsibilities

Test automation

• Write, maintain, and run automated end-to-end UI tests using Selenium WebDriver with TestNG (Java) or PyTest (Python), and with Playwright where the team uses it.
• Extend the existing automation frameworks with new page objects, utilities, and test data handling, following the design set by senior engineers.
• Enhance, debug, and execute existing browser-automation suites written in Java with Selenium and TestNG, or in Python with Selenium and PyTest.
• Write human-readable scenarios in Gherkin using Cucumber or Behave, and bind them to step definitions.
• Build and run API integration tests with the Karate Framework or an equivalent tool, covering positive, negative, and edge cases.
• Investigate failing tests, separate product defects from test defects and environment issues, and fix timing problems, dynamic locators, and unstable tests.
• Publish test results with Allure Reports, including attachments and history, and flag flaky and slow tests to the team.

Pipelines and version control

• Run, monitor, and troubleshoot automated test jobs in Jenkins, including the nightly regression, and report failures to the team with clear evidence.
• Update simple stages of a Jenkinsfile under guidance, and learn to author declarative pipelines over time.
• Support test runs on AWS-hosted test environments, and read logs and results in services such as CloudWatch and S3.
• Work in Git every day: use feature branches, raise pull requests, respond to review comments, merge and rebase changes, and resolve merge conflicts in the test repositories, following the team's branching strategy.

Test design and quality practice

• Analyze requirements and user stories, design test cases and test data, including edge cases, and recommend which scenarios to automate first.
• Perform manual and exploratory testing where automation does not yet cover a feature.
• Log defects with clear steps, evidence, and severity, verify fixes, and take part in sprint refinement, planning, and retrospectives.
• Learn the chemical and scientific data domain, including workflows, units of measurement, and data visualizations, and apply it in test design.

GenAI-assisted quality engineering

• Use GitHub Copilot and AI-native IDEs such as Windsurf to write, refactor, and debug automation code, and review and understand every suggestion before committing it.
• Use Claude to draft test cases and edge-case scenarios from requirements and domain specifications, and check each result against the source requirement.
• Follow the organization's guidelines on code and data confidentiality when using AI tools, and share useful techniques with the team.

Growth

• Pair with senior engineers, take part in code reviews, and build the skills to design and extend automation frameworks.

Job Requirements

• One to four years of experience in software QA, including at least one year of hands-on test automation on commercial or project work.
• Programming: working proficiency in Java (object-oriented concepts and collections) or Python (data structures and basic asynchronous programming).
• UI automation: hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and a test runner (TestNG for Java, PyTest or Unittest for Python), including locator strategies, waits, and the page object model. Playwright experience in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Java for end-to-end web tests.
• Git: comfortable with branching, merging, pull requests, and resolving merge conflicts.
• Testing fundamentals: understanding of test case design, the software development and testing lifecycles, the defect lifecycle, and smoke, regression, and exploratory testing.
• API testing: understanding of REST, JSON, and HTTP status codes, and experience testing APIs with Karate, Postman, or a similar tool.
• Continuous integration: able to run jobs and read results in Jenkins or a similar CI tool.
• Debugging: able to investigate failing tests, including timing issues, dynamic locators, and network state.
• Clear communication: reports defects and status clearly in writing and in team discussions.
• Responsible use of AI tools: willing to use GenAI assistants daily and to verify their output before relying on it.
