Role Summary/Purpose
The Python Engineer Mobile Platform & Backend is a hands-on engineer responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Python-based backend services and tooling that support a large-scale mobile platform ecosystem. This role spans two key areas: (1) building platform engineering tools, automation, CI/CD integrations, observability pipelines, and developer productivity tooling for mobile teams; and (2) developing and maintaining Python middleware APIs running on AWS that serve mobile applications. The engineer will collaborate closely with mobile app teams, DevOps, and platform engineering to deliver scalable, reliable backend services in a cross-shore agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Engineering & Tooling
- Build Python-based platform tools, automation, and shared libraries supporting CI/CD optimization, observability, metrics collection, and developer productivity
- Develop backend services and API integrations for engineering dashboards (metrics, release health, test coverage, quality gates)
- Contribute to mock service infrastructure, service virtualization, and AI-assisted development tooling
Middleware & Backend Services
- Design, develop, and maintain Python middleware APIs and microservices on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, DynamoDB, SQS)
- Build and optimize RESTful APIs using Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or similar) with robust error handling, logging, and monitoring
- Collaborate with mobile developers on API contracts and schema evolution; contribute to infrastructure-as-code for deployments
- Participate in on-call support and incident response for production services
General
- Collaborate across mobile, QE, DevOps, and architecture teams in a SAFe agile environment
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, design discussions, and knowledge sharing
Required Skills/Knowledge - Must Have skills
- Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience with Python as a primary language
- Strong experience building RESTful APIs and microservices using Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Django REST)
- Solid experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, SQS, CloudWatch)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, CloudBees, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis)
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, clean architecture, and SOLID principles
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration basics (Kubernetes/ECS)
- Proficiency with version control systems (Git, Bitbucket/GitHub)
- Experience writing unit tests, integration tests, and API tests (pytest, unittest)
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in SAFe or similar scaled frameworks
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
Desired Skills/Knowledge
- Experience building internal developer tools, CLIs, or platform automation
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (NewRelic, Splunk, CloudWatch, PagerDuty)
- Experience integrating with code quality and security scanning tools (SonarQube, Fortify, Nexus)
- Experience with service virtualization or mocking tools (WireMock, Postman)
- Familiarity with mobile app development ecosystems (iOS/Android build pipelines, app store APIs)
- Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS, SNS)
- Experience with API contract testing and schema validation (Pact, OpenAPI/Swagger)
- Familiarity with AI/ML tooling or LLM integration for developer productivity
- Experience with data pipelines or ETL processes for metrics collection and reporting
- Experience with financial services applications and regulatory/compliance requirements
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills in distributed, multi-shore team environments
- Excellent technical communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills for APIs, runbooks, and engineering guidelines
