Psychiatry Assistant Professor, Associate Professor
Job Summary

The Assistant Professor in Psychiatry is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, academic mentoring, research, and departmental activities in accordance with institutional policies and applicable medical education standards.

Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars, case discussions, demonstrations, and small-group teaching for undergraduate medical students.
  • Participate in postgraduate teaching and academic programmes.
  • Conduct bedside and clinical teaching in the Psychiatry outpatient department, inpatient unit, emergency services, and other clinical areas.
  • Teach subjects including psychiatric assessment, psychopathology, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, substance-use disorders, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and community psychiatry.
  • Prepare lesson plans, presentations, teaching materials, assignments, and assessment activities.
  • Conduct clinical/practical assessments, OSCE/OSPE, and other academic assessments as assigned.
  • Participate in internal and university examinations.
  • Mentor and guide undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Maintain academic and teaching records.
2. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and formulate appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care.
  • Manage common psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance-use disorders, and other mental health conditions.
  • Participate in psychiatric emergency and on-call services as assigned.
  • Provide appropriate pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with behavioural or psychological emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records.
  • Provide counselling and psychoeducation to patients and families.
  • Work collaboratively with psychologists, psychiatric social workers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Follow institutional policies relating to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical psychiatric practice.
3. Research Responsibilities
  • Participate in clinical, epidemiological, and academic psychiatric research.
  • Assist in developing research protocols and collecting, analysing, and interpreting research data.
  • Guide undergraduate research projects and participate in postgraduate research activities, as applicable.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in conferences, CME programmes, workshops, and academic meetings.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning.
  • Maintain clinical, academic, and research documentation.
  • Participate in hospital and institutional committees as assigned.
