Job summary

Keka Technologies Private Limited in Bengaluru seeks a Prototype Building & Fabrication Engineer/Technician to build, assemble, and fabricate prototypes based on engineering drawings and design specifications.

You will collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure safe, timely prototype builds with high quality, while adhering to 5S and safety practices. 1–4 years hands-on experience in similar roles is preferred.

Qualifications

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Automobile, Production, or related engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with welding, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and fitting.
  • 1–4 years hands-on experience in prototype building or fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble mechanical prototypes per drawings and CAD models.
  • Perform fabrication including cutting, drilling, grinding, bending, fitting, and welding.
  • Interpret BOMs and technical specs to ensure accurate prototype builds.
  • Inspect fabricated components using precision measuring instruments.
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Quality teams during prototype development and testing.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and work areas following safety practices.

Job description

The Prototype Building & Fabrication Engineer/Technician is responsible for building, assembling, and fabricating prototypes based on engineering drawings and design specifications. The role involves supporting new product development by working closely with Design, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure prototypes are built accurately, safely, and within project timelines.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
  • Build and assemble mechanical prototypes as per engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Perform fabrication activities including cutting, drilling, grinding, bending, fitting, and welding.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications to ensure accurate prototype builds.
  • Conduct mechanical assembly, integration, and modifications during prototype development.
  • Operate workshop machinery and fabrication equipment while adhering to safety standards.
  • Inspect fabricated components using measuring instruments such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, and other precision tools.
  • Identify fabrication and assembly issues, recommend corrective actions, and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Quality teams during prototype development and testing.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and work areas following 5S and safety practices.
  • Ensure timely completion of prototype builds while maintaining quality standards.
  • Support prototype validation, testing, and continuous design improvements.
Required Qualification
  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Automobile, Production, or a related engineering discipline.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, mechanical assembly, and workshop practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Understanding of welding, sheet metal fabrication, machining, and fitting processes.
  • Familiarity with measuring instruments and quality inspection methods.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and prototype development.
Experience
  • 1–4 years of hands-on experience in Prototype Building, Fabrication, Mechanical Assembly, or Manufacturing.
  • Experience in Automotive, Electric Vehicles (EV), Aerospace, Heavy Engineering, or Industrial Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Exposure to prototype development and engineering change implementation will be an added advantage.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fabrication skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
