Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Chennai seeks a seasoned Lead Engineer to drive engineering authority for substation projects and tenders. You will coordinate with System, Primary and Secondary Engineering, Project Managers, SCM, Civil/MEP, Commissioning, consultants and customers to deliver compliant, cost-effective solutions.

The role requires 8–12 years in engineering, knowledge of HV substations, and strong English presentation skills. Join a global team and lead technical delivery across country borders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 8–12 years of experience in engineering disciplines.
• Experience with medium to high voltage projects in substations.
• Knowledge of Power Systems equipment (Transformers, Capacitors, Reactors, Instrument Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Surge Arrestors).
• Familiarity with IEEE/IEC/GIGRE standards.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to high complexity in substations engineering.

• Evaluate risks and opportunities; mitigate engineering risks across disciplines.
• Present technical aspects at project/tender meetings with customers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal teams; share best practices across projects and disciplines.
• Assess overall cost of engineering disciplines and obtain approvals from Business Unit Head.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and contractual requirements.

The Opportunity

Lead Engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to high complexity for Substations Engg. Complete assignments on small, medium and large projects cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards. Coordinate with Project/Tendering team (i.e., System Engineering, Primary & Secondary Engineering), Project Managers, SCM, Civil / steel design functions, MEP, Commissioning, Consultants, End customers etc.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Driving the technical solution in coordination with other departments (i.e. System Engineering, Primary/Mechanical Engineering, Secondary/Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering) and support Tender Manager/ Project Manager for assigned Project/Tender.
• Evaluating risks and opportunities, strategizes mitigation of engineering disciplines.
• Interacting with customers, contractors, suppliers. Attends project/Tender meetings and presents all technical aspects of project/Tender assignments.
• Collaborating and networking with engineering colleagues within the organization. Shares best practice across different projects and disciplines.
• Evaluating the overall cost of the engineering disciplines and getting approved from Business Unit Head.
• Utilizing standard processes, tools, and techniques. Ensuring that engineering activities are complied with required safety regulations and contractual requirements.

Your Background

• Bachelor's degree in B.Tech or B.E or M.Tech.
• 8 - 12 years’ Experience in any Engineering Discipline (i.e., Systems Engineering, Primary & Secondary Engineering.
• Experience with Medium to High Voltage Projects in Power System – Substations Domain.
• Knowledge of Power Systems equipment and their purpose. Example, Power Transformers, Capacitors, Reactors, Instrument Transformer and measuring equipment, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors and Surge Arrestors.
• Knowledge on International standards (i.e., IEEE/IEC/GIGRE)
• Strong interpersonal and Presentation Skill.
• Dynamic and Proactive, willing to grow in the organization.
• Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization.
• Team player, ready to play the role across the different countries.
• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
