Responsibilities

  • Govern DPRs and evaluate financial feasibility, risks, and budget alignment
  • Review and authorize PRs, NFAs, and Project NFAs per DOA/SOPs

Job description

Purpose/Objective
  • Lead and govern the end-to-end project finance function for assigned project clusters, ensuring financial discipline, budgetary control, compliance, commercial governance, capitalisation, risk management, and strategic financial support for Greenfield and Brownfield expansion projects.
  • The role is responsible for driving project profitability, optimizing capital deployment, strengthening governance frameworks, and partnering with project, commercial, business development, and leadership teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities of Role
  • Project Finance Governance - Review Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and evaluate project financial feasibility, risks, assumptions, and alignment with approved budgets.
  • - Review and authorize Purchase Requests (PRs), Commercial NFAs, and Project NFAs in compliance with Delegation of Authority (DOA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • - Monitor project costs and proactively identify potential cost overruns and savings opportunities.
  • - Prepare Estimates at Completion (EAC/EACF), conduct variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
  • - Assess budget utilization and initiate budget reallocations or reshuffling in SAP when required.
  • Capitalisation & Asset Management - Oversee Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) accounting and reconciliation.
  • - Ensure timely capitalization of project assets, including asset classification, useful life determination, depreciation rates, and asset master creation.
  • - Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and capitalization policies.
  • - Prepare and review capitalization-related reports and compliance requirements.
  • SAP & Process Excellence - Support implementation and governance of SAP Project Systems (PS), MM, FI, and CO modules.
  • - Manage project structures, WBS hierarchy, release strategies, and budget uploads.
  • - Review and enhance project finance SOPs and ensure adherence across project teams.
  • - Develop and present monthly MIS, dashboards, and benchmarking reports for management review.
  • Incentives, Tax & Regulatory Compliance - Coordinate with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders for state incentive applications and tracking.
  • - Review direct and indirect tax matters to minimize financial leakage and ensure statutory compliance.
  • - Support MOOWR and other regulatory requirements applicable to projects.
  • - Coordinate internal audits, pre-audits, and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
  • Insurance, Contracts & Risk Management - Manage project insurance coverage, claims processing, recovery, and documentation.
  • - Review commercial contracts and identify potential financial or contractual risks.
  • - Drive risk mitigation actions and ensure contractual compliance.
  • - Resolve vendor-related commercial issues including payments, reconciliations, claims, and debit notes.
  • Strategic Modelling & Transactions - Develop and review financial models for Greenfield and Brownfield expansion projects.
  • - Design and evaluate project financing and commercial structures such as BOOT, DBFOT, and similar frameworks.
  • - Lead or support commercial negotiations for high-value transactions and agreements.
  • - Evaluate project-related Related Party Transactions (RPTs) and ensure necessary approvals and compliance.
  • - Collaborate on group synergy initiatives and process optimization projects.
  • Land, EPC & Business Operations - Oversee land-related budgeting, payments, and financial governance.
  • - Monitor EPC contractor performance and resolve commercial and financial issues.
  • - Manage project cash flow planning, funding requirements, and working capital optimization.
  • - Support finance governance reviews, leadership meetings, and functional engagement initiatives.
  • - Drive financial evaluation of renewable energy initiatives and cost optimization opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Educational Qualification - CA / CMA / MBA (Finance) / Chartered Accountant or equivalent finance qualification preferred.
  • - Additional certifications in Project Finance, Financial Modeling, or SAP will be an advantage.
  • Experience - 15 to 20 years of experience in Project Finance, Commercial Finance, Project Controlling, Capital Projects, or Infrastructure Finance.
  • - Experience in Cement, Manufacturing, Infrastructure, EPC, Power, Metals, or Large Industrial Projects preferred.
  • - Strong exposure to Greenfield and Brownfield project execution and financial governance.
