Hitachi ABB Power Grids is seeking an experienced Substation Design engineer to deliver complete engineering assignments for substations across tender stages. You will develop layouts, grounding, and lighting designs, produce BOMs, and prepare RFQs based on customer specs.
The role requires minimum two AIS/GIS substations experience, BIM authoring with Revit/Cymgrid, and strong coordination with cross-functional teams across regions.
Engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to medium complexity. Execution of complete engineering assignments on small, medium or large projects/tender cost effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, prepare Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, engg hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc
Coordinate with Engineering Manager, Engineering Leads, Tendering team, Project managers, SCM, Secondary and civil / steel design functions, consultants, end customers etc. and provide required support in each Project / Tender.
Produce discipline-specific BIM models as agreed in the BEP and Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP)
Develop models to required LOD / LOI at each project stage (Tender, Design, Construction, as-Built)
Populate models with accurate geometry, attributes, parameters, and metadata
Perform self‑checks prior to submission to the Common Data Environment (CDE)
Publish and update models in the CDE as per workflow WIP Shared Published
Support BIM Coordinator during: Model federation, Clash detection, Issue resolution
Resolve assigned clashes and model issues within agreed timelines
Implement design changes accurately and traceably
Maintain version control and update history
Ensure information containers remain consistent with latest approved inputs
Able to perform the following activities:
Having detailed design experience of minimum two projects of each AIS & GIS substation from 66kV & Above Statcom/SVC/Mobile SS/Prefab SS Knowledge - Importance of power quality projects in the grid integration. Substation Interface Engineering with MEP, Civil & Secondary - Handles interface coordination and resolves routine issues. Vendor Co-ordination - Independently coordinates with vendors for clarifications. Customer & Consultant Co-ordination - Handles routine customer & Consultant technical coordination. Tender Engineering - Understand the requirements from the sales, handle tender engineering independently, prepare Layout & SLD, BOM/BOQ of all major equipment, accessories. Project Engineering - Capable to handle the primary engineering, follow the Quality & processes & identify the project risks. Knowledge of Safety aspects in engineering and its applications. Standards - IEC, IEEE, EU & experience in utility base practice of middle east and Africa region.
Substation Design Calculation (SCF, SAG, Earthing, DSLP, Lighting, Conductor Sizing, Cable sizing (HV & MV) & Transformer sizing) - Performs design calculations as per standards and client requirements with minimum two of each AIS & GIS project.
Substation Layout Engineering of OEL, Earthing, Cable routing, DSLP layout - Independently deliver the layout & section drawing to the customer.
Tool Experience in Design Calculation (Cymgrid, Cymcab, DIALux, ETAP, CDEGS) - Independently uses calculation software and reviews the report.
Revit (ACC) & AutoCAD Competency - Review of documents through Revit and AutoCAD tool.
BIM authoring using Revit (or discipline-specific tools such as Tekla, Civil3D)
