Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Chennai invites an experienced electrical engineer to act as the engineering authority for substation projects and tenders, delivering complete engineering assignments with cost effectiveness and strict adherence to contract specs and quality standards.

You will prepare layouts and drawings, BOMs, RFQs, vendor vetting, and risk assessments based on customer specs and inputs from the OU Engineering team, coordinating with management and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with 10–15 years of experience.
• Minimum 7–10 years experience in substation tendering and project engineering (technical & commercial).

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, with exposure to international standards IEC, IEEE & AS.
• Prepare substation layouts and section drawings, grounding & lightning design, cable routings, BOMs, RFQs.
• Vetting of vendor offers; FAT/SAT of primary equipment as needed.
• Coordinate with Engineering Manager, tendering team, project managers and cross-functional teams; provide support across projects/tenders.
• Plan, implement and improve quality systems; ensure compliance with external/internal regulations.

Opportunity

Engineering authority for projects/tenders with low to medium complexity. Execution of complete engineering assignments on small, medium or large projects/tender cost effectively and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards.

Based on technical specifications from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, prepare substation layouts and section drawings, grounding system drawings, lightning system design drawings, cable routings, bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation, etc.

Coordinate with Engineering Manager, Engineering Leads, Tendering team, Project managers, SCM, secondary and civil / steel design functions, consultants, end customers, etc., and provide required support in each Project / Tender.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE & AS
• Substation layouts and section drawings, grounding system drawings, lightning system design, drawings, cable routings, cable tray routings, clearance drawings, etc.
• Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, cable sizing, battery & battery charger sizing, etc.
• Technical data sheets verification of primary equipment. Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc.
• Vendor offer evaluations. FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.
• Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.
• Plan, implement, review and continuously improve the quality system & follow OPEX initiatives.

Your Background

• Bachelors Engineering in Electrical, have 10-15 years experience.
• Should have minimum 7-10 years experience in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).
• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, MicroStation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence).
• Knowledge of relevant international standards ex. IEEE, IEC, etc.
• Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.
• Dynamic and proactive, willing to grow in the organization.
• Team player, ready to play the role across the different countries. High level of ownership.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality digital solutions.
• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
