Job description

Project Assistant: Urgent requirement

Number of positions: 01

Project: Turbulent dynamics and energy cascades of internal gravity waves

This project aims to identify the detailed pathways internal gravity waves take to go from large forcing scales to small dissipative scales. The research will be interdisciplinary in nature and will involve the usage of applied mathematical techniques, high resolution numerical simulations, and big data management. Direct numerical simulations and reduced model development will be pursued as part of this research.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (3 or 4 years) in Engineering/Physics/Mathematics/Geophysics/Atmosphere-Ocean Science or related disciplines.
• Working knowledge in the area of partial differential equations, Fourier analysis, and numerical methods, confirmed by courses taken in degree programs.
• At least one year research experience in geophysical fluid dynamics, computational modelling of partial differential equations, or related areas.
• Proficiency in scientific programming using Python, with working knowledge in writing spectral codes that can scale across CPUs.
• Experience in developing Python-based pseudospectral solvers for capturing turbulent flows.
• In depth understanding of internal gravity waves, geophysical turbulence, turbulent energy transfers in flows.
• Excellent English writing and communication skills.

Salary

Maximum monthly salary: Rs. 27,000 + HRA as per norms

Duration

Appointment will be for a maximum period of three months. The selected candidate is expected to join immediately after selection to work on the project.
