Job summary

WRI India is seeking a motivated Program Research Analyst - IRP to support Integrated Resource Planning with regulatory analysis, data collection, and policy research.

Your duties include reviewing policy documents, conducting background research, synthesising findings into concise notes, and contributing to techno-economic, regulatory, legal and policy analysis for energy planning projects. This is a 1-year term role based in Mumbai or New Delhi.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical/power systems engineering, public policy, economics, law or related disciplines.
  • At least two years of work experience; energy policy or regulatory analysis and data interpretation desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills; experience with technical papers and reports is a plus.
  • Ability to track, summarize, and record data from policies, orders and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research and literature reviews on generation and transmission resource adequacy policies, regulations and plans.
  • Support collection, interpretation, and analysis of regulatory/electricity data from multiple sources.
  • Review judgments, regulations, policies, and related documentation.
  • Assist techno-economic, regulatory, legal and policy analyses and synthesize findings into notes and summaries.
  • Support team with ongoing research tasks and participate in meetings and presentations.

Program Overview For Energy

The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India’s transition to cleaner energy through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work. The 5 pillars of the energy program focus on increasing clean energy demand, increasing clean energy supply, supporting sub‑national energy transitions, raising the issues of materials and circularity for the energy transition and ensuring equitable development through energy transitions.

About IRP

Under this initiative we work with states on Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and to support the translation of state energy‑transition priorities into implementable plans, infrastructure requirements and investment pathways. By helping states identify the system interventions needed to meet changing demand and integrate clean energy, the work strengthens their capacity to implement reliable and modern electricity infrastructure and supports the long‑term transition towards cleaner energy supply for communities.

Job Highlight

The Energy Program at WRI India is seeking a motivated Program Research Analyst - IRP with a background in regulatory analysis and strong analytical capabilities to support our work on Integrated Resource Planning (IRP). The role involves reviewing policy and regulatory documents, data collection, supporting analysis, and contributing to research on policy and institutional frameworks related to planning.

What You Will Do
  • Conduct background research and literature reviews on generation and transmission resource adequacy policies, regulations and plans.
  • Support the collection, interpretation, and analysis of regulatory/electricity data from various sources including policies, rules, regulations, tariff petitions, etc., ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Review judgments, regulations, policies, and related documentation.
  • Support techno‑economic, regulatory, legal and policy analysis.
  • Synthesise findings into clear and succinct notes and analytical summaries.
  • Support the team with ongoing research tasks.
  • Participate in team meetings, discussions, and presentations of research outputs.
What You Will Need
  • Master’s degree in electrical/power systems engineering, public policy, economics, law or related disciplines.
  • At least two years of work experience. Exposure to energy policy or regulatory analysis and data interpretation is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills. Contributions to technical papers, research reports, online journals/magazines will be a plus.
  • Ability to meticulously track, analyse, summarise and record important data and details from policies, regulatory orders, legal documents, and other such sources.
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy sector, public policy, and climate resilience.
  • Comfort with quantitative analysis involving large data in Microsoft Excel and ability to present key findings using PowerPoint and other tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
Potential Salary and Benefits

INR 9,50,000 to 12,00,000 Per Annum

Salary shall be commensurate with experience, skills and internal parity. WRI India offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

1 year as a term hire (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
